The number of properties available to rent decreased sharply in May to reach the lowest level recorded this year, data from Association of Residential Letting Agents shows. One in six young people between 25 and 34 years old said to have relied on inheritance from a relative to buy their own house, compared to just one in 20 people aged over 55, housing charity Shelter said.
