Battle of the super hunks! Hugh Jackman faces off against Channing Tatum at Comic Con as the Magic Mike actor announces he is joining The X Men in Gambit spin-off

They are both sought-after Hollywood actors and heart throbs.

But that’s not all Hugh Jackman and Channing Tatum have in common.

Channing, 35, is set to follow in Hugh’s footsteps, with the announcement that he will star as the lead in his own X-Men series spin-off Gambit - the same franchise Hugh headed up in the role of Wolverine.

However it was more a battle of the super hunks than super heroes when the two mega stars took a moment to pose for a photo which Hugh shared to his Instagram account on Sunday.

‘Had to come all the way from AU to say hey to you Mate!’ he captioned the image.

He added the hashtags 'Gambit' and 'Wolverine' before tagging the Magic Mike star in the image.

Hugh, 46, has seen enormous success playing Wolverine in the X-Men Origins series and also headlining two standalone ‘Wolverine’ spin-offs.

And while it is hoped that Channing will challenge the success of his fellow Marvel hero at the box office, the pair showed no signs of rivalry at the event.

Both stars appeared to be well-groomed and both sported huge smiles across their chiselled faces.

Whilst the character of Wolverine possesses the healing power to cure any disease, Channing’s character Gambit’s powers are quite different.

Rival hero: Channing will play Gambit in an upcoming X-Men series spin off, a super hero who has the the ability to mentally create, control and manipulate pure kinetic energy to his desire

Hugh is expected to continue his role as Wolverine for the third Wolverine film, currently scheduled for a 2017 release.

The Australian star opted for a grey suit jacket and pants over a white t-shirt, hiding his face behind a pair of dark shades as he greeted fans before entering the event.

Appearing excited to be attending the event, the Comic-Con veteran put a peace sign up to the gathered crowd.

The successful actor was also seen posing with another super hunk and fellow X-Men star Ryan Reynolds at the Comic-Con event.

Ryan will lead a new X-Men series blockbuster as Deadpool, a comic book hero with a cult following set to be released next February.

It seems off-screen there is no rivalry between any of the superheroes at Comic-Con, as all three stars, Hugh, Channing and Ryan were also seen posing in another photo that is being called the greatest superhero selfie of all time.

Taken during the Fox Panel at the Comic event, the picture also features Jennifer Lawrence and the entire Fantastic Four cast.
