David de Gea joined his Manchester United team-mates on Monday as they prepared to jet off to Seattle for their pre-season tour of America.

De Gea, who is wanted by Real Madrid, was included in Louis van Gaal's 26-man squad for the tour, as well as new signings Bastian Schweinsteiger, Morgan Schneiderlin, Matteo Darmian and Memphis Depay.

Fans mobbed players and staff as they arrived at Manchester Airport, with Van Gaal getting special attention in particular, as he was hugged by fans as he made his way to check-in before the club's flight.

Victor Valdes was the surprise omission from United's squad, which included goalkeepers Sam Johnstone and Anders Lindegaard, as well as De Gea, despite the Spaniard's long-term future continuing to rumble on.

The news will come as a blow to Valdes, with his agent Gines Carvajal insisting that the former Barcelona goalkeeper doesn't want to leave Old Trafford this summer, and instead wants to see out the remaining year of his contract while fighting for a first-team place.

However, the recent news casts doubts over whether Valdes will remain at United for the 2015-16 campaign, despite uncertainties over De Gea's future at Old Trafford. However, Sportsmail understands that Real are unwilling to meet the Red Devils' asking price for the Spain goalkeeper currently.

Rafael was another notable exclusion from Van Gaal's squad for the tour, as the Brazilian's future looks set to be be away from Old Trafford.

United begin the defence of the International Champions Cup on Friday when they face Mexican outfit Club America, before further games against MLS side San Jose Earthquakes, Spanish giants Barcelona, and then finishing off against Paris Saint-Germain on July 29.

Members of the squad were pictured at Manchester Airport on Monday afternoon ahead of their flight, with club captain Wayne Rooney seen greeting new signing Schweinsteiger.

The former Bayern Munich midfielder, as well as Darmian and Schneiderlin were all pictured at the airport in their United club suits - something which had been seen earlier in the day thanks to the club's official tailor.

Photos of the trio in their new suits had already circulated on social media after the club tailor had posted them on Twitter - all of which was prior to the club officially announcing Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin.

Elsewhere, United duo Marcos Rojo and Angel di Maria were not named in the squad for the tour, owing to their participation in the recent Copa America tournament.
