'I was so worried I wouldn't fall in love': Salma Hayek details the disastrous dating history that led to her happy marriage as she poses topless for stunning Allure shoot

Even the most gorgeous actresses have trouble finding 'the one' - as Hollywood star Salma Hayek has admitted, after revealing that, before marrying her husband, she dated people she shouldn't have because she was 'desperate' to find her perfect soulmate.

Posing on the cover of Allure's August issue, the 48-year-old actress revealed that when she was younger she was in a hurry to find the person with whom she was going to spend the rest of her life - and because of that desire, she found herself overlooking her previous partners' shortcomings.

Salma, who married French businessman François-Henri Pinault on Valentine's Day in 2009, told the magazine: 'I wish I knew [when I was younger] that I was going to fall crazy in love with the perfect man. I was so worried, and I dated some people I shouldn't have dated.

'You get desperate, and you start seeing wonderful things in, like, the wrong guys. I also found some pretty good guys.

'But I wish I could say to myself: "Hey, chill out. You're going to get a great husband that's going to adore you,"' she added: 'I would have saved myself a lot of personal drama.'

The couple have a seven-year-old daughter Valentina together, and Salma noted that, despite her busy work schedule, motherhood comes before all else.

'I've never been apart from my daughter for more than two weeks. And same with François. We don't separate for long periods of time. Never,' she said.

Indeed, Salma, who starred in telenovelas at the star of her career, before heading to Hollywood, is so enamored with her family that she actually considered giving up her acting career after giving birth to Valentina.

However, when she broached the subject with François, he insisted that she go back to work, telling her: 'We're not putting up with some lazy girl in the house. That's not who I married.'

But Salma explained that his seemingly harsh reaction was actually out of love and respect for her passions.

'He said something so beautiful,' she said of François, adding that he told her: 'I don't want to be deprived of your work. I want to watch it, too. And the world has not seen the best of you yet. So you cannot stop until some of that is put out.'

And Salma admitted that her husband, who knows she values her independence, was right to push her.

When he first proposed, she told him that she wanted to remain somewhat financially independent, despite his massive wealth as the CEO of luxury goods holding company, Kering.

'And he goes, "I know. That's why I want to marry you,"' she recalled. 'Maybe that's also part of what works great in my marriage. I still have my independence. But he likes it... And I get a lot of respect from him.'

Salma looks every bit the Hollywood siren on the cover of Allure, which sees her soft brunette curls loosely pulled up, showcasing her dramatic cat-eye make-up.

The actress, who flaunted her ample cleavage during the photoshoot, also posed topless in the spread, covering her breasts with her hands.

Salma, who looks like she is in her twenties, is also the founder of her own beauty line called Nuance. And while it is common for actresses to rely on plastic surgery or fillers to keep a youthful appearance, Salma said she has never had work done.

In fact, the mother-of-one is grateful that she never tried Botox, despite the pressure she faced when she was younger.

'When I was young, they tried to sell me on the idea: "If you do it now, then you won't get the wrinkles,"' she explained. 'And thank God I didn't do that.'
