Explore Victoria's It-Tokk market, visit the Azure Window and snorkel along a picturesque inlet: Brad and Angelina's guide to Malta (the location of their much-anticipated new film)

  • The superstars reunited for their first professional project together in a decade, By The Sea, on the island of Gozo
  • Mgarr ix-Xini Bay, a picturesque beach within a creek, served as the site for the majority of filming
  • Gozo is also a popular shooting location for Game of Thrones, which has filmed at the iconic Azure Window

After gaining fame as a filming location for Game of Thrones, the idyllic island of Gozo has attracted two of Hollywood's biggest names for their first project together in a decade.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie first met on the set of 2005's Mr & Mrs Smith and this November will be reunited again in the film By The Sea, which was shot on Malta's sister island.

Set in 1970s France, the travel drama will feature breathtaking views of the rocky island and especially the Bay of Mgarr ix-Xini, a picturesque beach set within a creek, which is where a good deal of filming took place last summer.

But even if you're not filming a blockbuster, there's no reason you shouldn't experience Gozo like an A-lister. And here's how.

The picturesque coastline at Mgarr ix-Xini Bay was the perfect location for the superstar couple to shoot in private.

As one of the most secluded beaches on the island, it's tranquil setting is appealing for everyone from studio crews to families.

Filming first began on August 18, after dozens of workers prepared the site just days before their arrival.

In fact, the studio even paid the owners of a local restaurant to close for three months, meaning that the crew would have unrestricted access to the area's pebble beach.

The rocky island of Gozo, off the Maltese coast, was thrilled to welcome the A-listers to their tiny paradise.

With a population of just 31,000, local authorities are hopeful that the film will boost tourism in the area once it's released - in the same way that Game of Thrones has brought notoriety to the country.

And in case you needed another reason to visit this particular fjord-like inlet, it's also famed for its gorgeous crystal blue sea views, snorkelling and diving.

Ġgantija Temples

No visit to Gozo is complete without a trip to one of the most important archaeological sites in the Maltese Islands: the Ġgantija Temples

One of the most important archaeological sites in the Maltese Islands, Gozo's Ġgantija Temples date back to between 3,600 and 3,200 BC - making them older than the Egyptian Pyramids.

The Neolithic temple complex is comprised of two structures, which were built side by side and are enclosed within a boundary wall, and may have served as the site of a fertility cult.

And for travellers as worldly as Angelina and Brad, it wouldn't be surprising to hear that the globe-trotting couple stopped off to take in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Citadel Cinema

For those travelling with a large family, it's always good to plan for a rainy day. Why not take in a film at the Citadel Cinema?

When you travel with a brood as large as Angelina and Brad's, it's always good to plan a rainy day activity - just in case.

Thankfully, the Gozo's capital city of Victoria offers one of the most beautiful ways to take in a film: the Citadel Cinema, housed in a nineteenth century townhouse.

Having been operating as Gozo's main cinema for the last eighteen years, crowds can take in their favourite American and British blockbusters in supreme style.

Though Brangelina may not have filmed here, Game of Thrones fans may recognise the spectacular natural site from the show.

A landmark in Dwejra, along with The Inland Sea and Fungus Rock, the Azure Window is a must-visit for the famous and non-famous alike.

It's also one of the most photographed vistas on the islands, in particular, the deep blue sea that surrounds it, which also doubles as a fantastic dive site.

The National Shrine of the Blessed Virgin of Ta' Pinu is a Roman Catholic basilica situated some 700 metres from the village of Gharb.

Tourists can visit the majestic church free of charge, though men cannot wear shorts and women must cover their shoulders.

And best of all, it's located right on the edge of a cliff in the middle of a vast, rolling countryside, which means visitors take in sweeping views of the area.

No trip to Gozo would be complete without a browse through Rabat, also known as Victoria, and its famous market.

The capital city is home to the Citadel, the iconic hill-top structure that dates back to Neolithic times, as well as plenty of dining, drinking and shopping options.

Both the country's geographical and social hub, visitors can watch Islanders go about their day, all the while browsing the main market square, It-Tokk.

The narrow winding streets sell everything from fresh produce to cheese and wines and antiques - and certain times of year, you may even see a horse race along the main street.

Adventurous travellers would do well to take a day trip down to Ramla Bay.

One of the island's most famous resort beaches, there are plenty of activities on offer for those looking to jet-ski, snorkel or kayak.

History buff will also appreciate the beach's batteries, which were built around 1715, and magnificent sand dunes.
