As star of Grey's Anatomy, Ellen Pompeo is used to wearing her heart on her sleeve.

But on Monday the 45-year-old actress wore her heart on her chest with a cute dusty rose T-shirt as she stepped out for lunch with husband Chris Ivery and friends in West Hollywood.

The mother-of-two appeared happy and relaxed as she smiled while going braless.

The slender actress, who stars as Meredith Grey on the long-running drama, smiled and laughed with friends as she went make-up free.

In addition to the V-neck Tshirt adorned with a cute red heart, she flashed her toned legs in a pair of tiny black shorts and held a stylish black leather clutch.

Flat black sandals and large, geometric sunglasses completed her free-love inspired look.

The actress wore her light brown hair loose and unstyled over her shoulders for the relaxed outing.

Her longtime husband Ivery also kept it casual, wearing a white Tshirt, a camouflage baseball cap, aviator sunglasses and distinctive harem-style sweatpants.

However, the music producer dressed up his look with a large gold chain and a gold watch.

The actress appeared in good spirits, grinning broadly as she crossed the Los Angeles street.

Pompeo and Ivery recently returned from a family vacation in Italy, where she took time out to give a master class and Q&A at the Taormina Film Festival last month.

The loved-up couple, who wed in 2007, are proud parents to daughters Stella, aged five, and Sienna, who was born via surrogate in August.

The star is no doubt enjoying her free time before returning to the set of Grey's Anatomy for its 12th season, which premieres on ABC on September 24.

The upcoming season is set to be an emotional roll-coaster for fans, who were left stunned by the sudden death of Patrick Dempsey's character Derek 'McDreamy' Shepherd.

The beloved doctor was shockingly killed off after a horrific car accident.

But on Monday all the drama seemed far from her mind, as the beauty appeared upbeat and happy while spending time with friends and family.
