Kylie Jenner ditched her much talked about cornrows for a simple top knot when she headed out to a nail salon in Beverly Hills on Monday.

The 17-year-old reality star caused controversy with the choice of style and was slammed by actress Amandla Stenberg, 16, after she shared a picture of her new look to her Instagram account.

But the half-sister of Kim Kardashian didn't seem too fazed and looked incredible in a brown leather jacket and skinny jeans as she drove herself to the Nail Bar And Beauty Lounge for a manicure.

Kylie Jenner is turning into a serious style star just like her older sisters.

Amandla hit out at Kylie and accused her of 'appropriating black culture' without using her celebrity 'to help black Americans', after the snap was shared.

She commented: 'When u appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.'

Kylie, who is believed to be dating rapper Tyga, responded: 'Mad if I don't, Mad if I do…. Go hang w Jaden or something.'

The Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was referring to the fact that Amandla, who rose to fame playing Rue in The Hunger Games, went to prom with Jaden Smith in May.

Justin Bieber later jumped to Kylie's defence and wrote on Instagram: 'Guys leave her alone, were all trying to figure it out and she happens to be under a microscope!' [sic]

The singer, 21, added: 'I'm the first to know this. But saying she's being racist because she has her hair in braids is ridiculous.

The teenager also commented on Instagram after posting a photo of the back of her hair she was thinking of shaving her head again.

She captioned the shot: 'Post shaved head. Thinking of shaving it off again.'

Kylie is just shy of her 18th birthday but she is already working harder than most.

Earlier on Monday she was seen heading to yet more filming of reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians on Monday in some sky high heels.

Kylie has been taking part in filming of the eleventh season of the E! series in between spending her downtime with the rapper.

Always having to make sure she is en pointe in the fashion stakes for the show, she completed her look with a black furry Fendi bag and oversized frames.

According to TMZ, Guen Lee claims Tyga failed to promote the brand and get it on shelves as promised, and has also gone on to start a new company called Egypt Kings.

Meanwhile, Kylie is also counting down to her 18th birthday. While on the red carpet for her hair extension launch she dished on how she plans to celebrate.

'The first thing I want to do is maybe have like a birthday party and then maybe go on a trip with just my friends,' she told E!.

'I'm legal, so I can go on a trip legally without a chaperone, so that'll be fun, just a girl trip.'
