'My world is so much brighter': Olivia Munn praises boyfriend Aaron Rodgers for helping her to conquer her anxiety as she stars on the cover of Good Housekeeping

  • Olivia, 35, has suffered from trichotillomania, an 'impulsive control' disorder which causes people to pull out their eyelashes
  • The X-Men: Apocalypse star also struggles with anxiety, something which her boyfriend - and their puppy Chance - help her to deal with

Actress Olivia Munn has opened up about her relationship with her boyfriend Aaron Rodgers, praising the Green Bay Packers quarterback - and their beloved puppy Chance - for helping her through some of the tougher times in her life.

Speaking to Good Housekeeping, the 35-year-old actress admitted that, as a result of her anxiety and her nerves, she can have the odd bad day, noting that it is the support and love of her boyfriend and their pet pooch which helped her get through her darkest days.

'I was having a tough time earlier this year; one day I broke down on the floor, crying,' the Good Housekeeping cover star revealed. 'Chance came up and snuggled with me. He's so smart, so kind... he's got my heart.'

And it's not just rescue puppy Chance who received a gushing shout-out in the new interview; Olivia also added how football star Aaron has helped her to feel so much healthier, both in mind and body.

'My boyfriend's healthiness inspires me,' she explained.

'Aaron is different than every other man I've ever met... there's so much I could say. Everything a good person can be, he is. '

He's in such great shape, and especially lately, he's been eating so well and working out. Having somebody in your life like that is so motivating.'

Embracing exercise has also been key in terms of Olivia controlling her anxiety - and she admitted that the therapist she had been to see about her OCD and her trichotillomania was horrified when she confessed that she wasn't a big fan of fitness.

Eager to ensure that Olivia start getting physically fit and active as soon as possible, her therapist recommended hypnotism - and the actress was stunned to find how easily it worked.

'I'm not exaggerating: That was on a Friday, and by Monday I was working out every day at 6am,' she said. 'If I missed a session, I'd double up and do it the next day. Now I feel so much stronger.'

Coupled with the motivation from her boyfriend, who she began dating in early 2014, and the comfort provided by her pet pooch,Olivia has all the support she could ever need.

She revealed that adding Cavalier King Charles Chance to their household has made the trio feel 'like a family', and the two have provided her with the perfect support network, to help her take on the world and face up to her battle with anxiety.

'Chance made us a family,' she gushed. 'He and Aaron have changed my life in every way. My world has become so much brighter, sweeter and lovelier.'

But while the trio have become a tight-knit family, Olivia admits that her relationship with Aaron, 31, has not stopped her from continuing to pursue her incredibly successful career.

Noting that her mom's best advice to her was to 'never settle... never marry a guy and just become somebody's wife', Oklahoma-born Olivia added that, as the youngest of four siblings, she has always had to be prepared to fight for herself - and for what she wants.

Which is something of an easier task thanks to the intensive karate training she, and the rest of her siblings, went through as youngsters.

'All of us started karate at around age five and studied it until we were about 16 — and we weren't allowed to stop practicing until we had achieved black belts,' she said.

'The things that stayed with me the most from that training were the discipline not to give up when something feels too hard and the confidence that comes from knowing that if I keep working hard, I'll achieve my goal, even if it feels impossible.'

No doubt her karate training came in handy while she was working on the set of the soon-to-be released X-Men: Apocalypse, in which Olivia stars as sword-wielding mutant Psylocke.

Last month Olivia proved that, just like her character, she has the real-life ability for conquering evil after sharing a video of herself skilfully swinging a Samurai sword.

Having been busy honing her Samurai skills for the role, she couldn't wait for the chance to show them off to her fans.

The actress took to Instagram to show off her sword slashing expertise, and she's so good that it's feasible she will perform many of her scenes without the help of a stunt double.

She captioned the video: 'Learned some new tricks...'

Olivia, who was at Comic-Con over the weekend promoting the new superhero flick, stars alongside James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Oscar Isaac, Rose Byrne and many others.

This will be the first time that her character will have made the jump from comic book to silver screen.

As well as X-Men: Apocalypse, Olivia is also due to star in upcoming movies Zoolander 2 and Ride Along 2.
