Tiger Woods fails to make the cut for Rory McIlroy PGA Tour game... despite 16 years as EA Sports main man
- Rory McIlroy is the cover star of EA Sports best-selling golf game
- Tiger Woods endorsed the game from 1998 until 2014
- Woods is now way down at No 241 in the world rankings
- World No 1 McIlroy is missing The Open through injury
- Woods is playing at St Andrews where he has won two Claret Jugs
Tiger Woods has endorsed every annual computer golf game released by EA Sports for the last 16 years but his fall is such that he is not even included in Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, to be launched at St Andrews on Thursday.
EA said golfers were picked from the top 100 - Tiger is ranked 241 - and also cited ‘political reasons’.
EA announced in October 2013 they were ending their relationship with Woods, while McIlroy was selected as title golfer last March.

The Northern Irishman, who is missing The Open this week after injuring his ankle playing football, said at the time: 'I'm very proud and humbled to see my face and name on EA SPORTS Rory McIlroy PGA TOUR. This is a great honour, and something I couldn't even dream of growing up playing the sport.'
EA Sports built its PGA Tour series around Woods from 1998 until it ended its relationship with him in 2013 when Woods was still No 1 in the world.
McIlroy is the current world No 1 and the pair shared the cover in 2011.
The game will be available for Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
