'One life in and one life out': Vicki Gunvalson grieves over mother's death on RHOOC as Tamra Judge welcomes first grandchild
Vicki Gunvalson while grieving the loss of her mother on The Real Housewives Of Orange County on Monday perfectly summed up the emotional episode.
'One life in and one life out,' Vicki noted as she buried her mother on the very same day that Tamra Judge became a grandmother for the first time.
In an emotional rollercoaster, viewers were taken from Vicki's tears of grief to tears of joy from Tamra as she held her first grandchild, Ava, for the very first time.
In mourning: Vicki Gunvalson grieved over the death of her mother on Monday's episode of The Real Housewives Of Orange County that also featured the birth of Tamra Judge's first grandchild
Calling the news the 'circle of life', Lizzie Rovsek said: 'That's what the say - there's a birth and a death.'
'One life in and one life out,' Gunvalson said. 'But I feel lost, I feel lonely. I need my mom.'
Of the death of her 82-year-old mother, Vicki explained: 'She laid down on her bed and died in her home with her dog lying next to her, her Golden retriever.
New addition: Tamra was excited to welcome her first grandchild a baby girl named Ava
'She just went to sleep.'
'I physically picked my mom out of the casket and I was just sobbing on her cheek,' she said of the funeral. 'It was awful.'
And even on returning from the funeral in Chicago, she insisted: 'I really don't know how I'm going to function. I feel like I'm dying right now and I don't know how to fix this.'
Tough time: Vicki struggled with the sudden death of her mother throughout the show
But she had also tried to make light of her grief, telling Tamra when she visited her that 'you can't be mad at me ever again because my mom liked you'.
'She said, ''Why is Tamra so mean to you?''' Vicki told her friend. 'I said, ''I don't know, I'll go talk to her''. My mom really, really liked you.'
Then after the funeral, when Shannon Beador visited to bring her homeopathic remedies for grief and calming, she told her that she wanted to see a medium to contact her mother.
Showing compassion: Tamra visited Vicki to offer her condolences while awaiting her first grandchild
'I have a ton of questions for my mother - there's that one recipe she had that she never told me about,' she joked later, adding more seriously: 'If it gives me a sense of peace then so be it.'
The exchange also brought humor as Vicki clearly kept talking about a 'median', with Shannon later joking to camera: 'Vicki, I think you mean medium, not median.
'I'm the wife of a heavy highway contractor - a median goes down the middle of a highway, they don't talk to dead people.'
Good friend: Vicki received a visit from her friend Shannon Beador
Seeking peace: Shannon listened as Vicki kept talking about seeing a 'median' to contact her late mother
Knife in heart: Shannon was still reeling from her husband's affair and asked for a list of restaurants where he and his mistress dined to prevent future surprises
Tamra was understandably excited about her son Ryan becoming a dad, saying: 'I'm going to be the hottest grandmother in Orange County!'
But the timing as she prepared to join Ryan for the birth was clearly tainted by her desire to support Vicki at her time of need.
'I'm feeling guilty for feeling so happy about having this new grandbaby in my life - and Vicki has to bury her mom,' she said. 'That's just so not fair - it's so not fair.
Not fair: Tamra noted how it wasn't fair that Vicki had to bury her mother while was welcoming a grandchild
Silver lining: Heather Dubrow and Lizzie Rovsek were grateful that Vicki had a large family to lean on
Affection withheld: Terry Dubrow tried unsuccessfully to get a hug from his young daughter Collette
Viewers got to see home video of baby Ava in the delivery room, as well as the moment Tamra tearfully picked her up for the first time and told her: 'I'm your grandma.'
'My first born just had a first born - I'm a grandma!' she said later. 'There's no going back.
'It's overwhelming, it's precious … and I feel a little old.
Overwhelming and precious: The mother of four felt like a grandchild would change her life
High five: Ryan and Sarah exchanged a high five in the delivery room
'This little baby is a part of me. And I just feel like my whole life has changed forever.'
She also said it has helped her see her son - who is talking about maybe returning to Orange County - in a new light.
'Ryan hasn't always made the best choices in life, and I've always kinda felt like a failure as a mother because of some of the choices he's made and the trouble he's gotten into,' she admitted.
Tender moment: Tamra held her granddaughter Ava for the first time
Good kid: Ryan was seen in a new light by his mother Tamra who felt he would be a good dad
'Today, I know I've raised a good kid. He's going to be a good dad.'
Meghan King Edmonds also had a moving family experience as she worked closely with her husband's ex-wife LeAnn in preparing for her daughter's winter formal dance.
'This could be the last formal that LeAnn helps Hayley get ready for,' she said of LeAnn's cancer battle.
Winter formal: Meghan King Edmonds partnered with her husband's ex-wife Leann to help her daughter Hayley get ready for a winter formal dance
Getting along: Leann and Meghan get along well and worked hard to help Hayley out
'And I think that it's really important to try to capture these beautiful moments, because I don't know how many more we'll have like this.'
However, she admitted it made for a strange sight to see them all so close, adding: 'I think it's extremely rare to have exes and new spouses like this getting along so well.'
Still, as she earlier took Hayley for a hip yoga class on a paddle board, she could not help but brag about how she thinks her stepdaughter is closer to her because she is so much younger.
Too much information: David Beador oddly started telling his daughters about an argument with their mom
Family moment: Shannon and her three daughters listened as David over shared
Big night: Hayley got ready in time for an impromptu photoshoot on the beach
Group shot: The group got together for a photo with Hayley before her big dance
'I'm a really cool stepmom,' she bragged. 'I can talk to Hayley about Twitter, and Instagram, and Snapchat.
'I get it - I'm with it, I'm cool, I'm hip. Her friends get it and I get it - and a lot of moms don't.'
'Hashtag-stepmomhood!' she added with a smile.
On the water: Meghan and Hayley enjoyed a paddleboarding session together
