When boy bands collide! Nick Carter is making a zombie film with AJ McLean from The Backstreet Boys and Joey Fatone from 'N Sync

Nick Carter is putting together a zombie movie called Dead 7.

And the 35-year-old singer is not just asking his old band mate AJ McLean, 37, from The Backstreet Boys to join him. The musician has also cast Joey Fatone, 38, from 'N Sync, he confirmed while at Comic-Con in San Diego.

Carter has been working on the script for years, and will direct and star in the film, which is set to air on the Syfy channel.

And it seems he's trying to recruit the next generation of boy bands into the mix, tweeting an invite to One Direction's Niall Horan asking him to join the cast.

“Ok @NiallOfficial I know we’re from different generations but…would you like to play my brother in this zombie movie with me?” Carter tweeted on the weekend.

And the singer didn't stop there, also publicly reaching out to Mel B and Sir Paul McCartney via Twitter, inviting them to join him on set.

Carter's wife Lauren Kitt, who he wed in April last year, will also have a part in the film.

The zombie film is being produced by The Asylum, who brought the world B-movie phenomenon Sharknado.

Dead 7 is about 'a ragtag band of gunslingers who must rid a small town of a zombie plague in a post-apocalyptic West,' according to the producers.

Carter will star as Jack, the 'reluctant hero' who unites the gang to fight back against the zombie threat.

There is also a love triangle between Carter's character and his younger brother.

Nineties favorites The Backstreet Boys and 'N Sync were considered rivals as they set hearts aflutter and sold millions of records in their heyday.

However, Carter says the performers were always friends behind the scenes, and promises the film will be 'cathartic' for longtime fans torn between loyalties.

'Think about it,' he told Buzzfeed. 'Boy-banders, people from the late ‘90s, people who you love, fighting zombies in a post-apocalyptic world. Pretty crazy, right?'

Carter has also been hitting the gym to get in shape for his part as the zombie-slaying hero, posting pictures of his abs-in-progress to Instagram.

'The day you wake up and start to see all your hard work pay off #Dead7', he wrote on Instagram, while sharing a shirtless photograph of himself at the gym on Sunday.
