Speaking about his wider family, Michael said of his 98 year old father, Kirk Douglas: 'He’s doing great, he’s sharp as a tack, getting around, working on new memoirs…

'[I do care about his opinion of my work] I do, between your father and your children, you care what they think and if they’re going to get a kick out of it, you want to make them proud.'

Blessed: Michael said of his relationship with 45-year-old Catherine: 'We are really, really happy and enjoying our time together and enjoying [time] with the kids, it’s a great time'

Sparkle like a superstar in Catherine's embellished dress

This family are clearly a team, united here at the Ant Man première in London - you get all or nothing with them it seems.

Catherine Zeta-Jones stepped out with her husband Michael and her two kids and as ever the spotlight was on her as they strolled down the red carpet. The beauty is 45 years old but could be mistaken for being in her twenties with her svelte figure and sparkling dress sense.

She slipped into a little embellished mini dress for the event that showed off her slim pins, exaggerated with those metallic heels - it was all glitter and shimmer here, appropriate for such a big Hollywood star.

The great thing about Catherine's dress was that although it was super sparkly (which can often be associated with tacky attire when in the wrong hands,) it was set on a nude chiffon underlay that ensured the piece exuded elegance. It was pure class.

Catherine's dress is from designer KaufmanFranco and although no longer available, you can shop the current collection at Farfecth to the right.

Michael's mother Diana Dill, sadly passed away earlier this month and he spoke about her fondly during the interview.

'My mother’s side of the family, you should know, is Scottish,' he said. 'They were originally, say, privateers and ended up in Bermuda in the 1600s and so my family established itself in Bermuda in the 1600s.

'Bermuda is very special. I was raised there with my mother who passed away just recently and I’ll be taking her ashes back to Bermuda soon.'

Meanwhile, the actor also said that acclaimed role as Liberace in Behind The Candelabra, came at a great time for him, following a period of ill health.

He said: 'One of the best roles I ever had, it came to me at such an opportune time.

'I recently was in remission from my cancer and not knowing if I was ever going to work again and then along comes on a silver platter this incredible role with Matt Damon and Steven Soderbergh and it was a joy.'

Lorraine is on ITV, weekdays from from 8.30am to 9.25am
