'Can a sistah get one fan?' Brandy goes incognito as she belts out a song on a New York subway car...and everyone ignores her

It costs a whopping $160 for a top price seat to see her as Roxy in the musical Chicago at the Ambassador Theatre  on Broadway.

But riders on the New York subway were totally unimpressed when Brandy belted out a number for them as she travelled incognito after working out at a gym.

Her impromptu performance was captured by her videographer pal Frank Silent and it showed the passengers staring stoically forward, completely ignoring the hoodie-wearing 36-year-old singing Home from 1976 musical The Wiz.

At one point the star turned around and asked: 'What ya’ll thought of that? Ya’ll think that was cool?'

When no one replied, she called out: 'Hello? Nobody heard me singing? Nobody cares? Ok.'

Then, Brandy joked: 'People in New York are so rude, like, oh my god. Like, I just sang from the heart' before pretending to get teary.

Of course, the passengers might have felt differently had they known they were being entertained by the hitmaker...but maybe not. New Yorkers are notorious for being frosty at the best of times.

The surprised singer, full name Brandy Norwood, posted an Instagram snap on Monday, saying: 'Dahling' I rode the subway and sung my lil' heart out... you're not gonna believe how it all turned out!'

And she directed her followers to her blog, titled, Can A Sistah Get One Fan? where she described her experience and shared the three-minute video.

Only one man on the train commented on her performance as they pulled into a station, saying: 'Don’t be scared. You got talent man, go for it.'

And he explained why the New Yorkers ignored her, adding: 'We’ve seen this a million times. You’ve gotta do something different.'

However, thanks to the publicity, Brandy may have been noticed by one very important group of people - the producers planning the upcoming revival of 1974's The Wiz, based on the Wizard Of Oz.

According to The Grio website, Brandy is campaigning for a part as Dorothy in the show that will air as a live production on NBC at Christmas before transferring to Broadway in 2016.
