Andy Cohen apologizes after branding Amandla Stenberg's cornrows feud with Kylie Jenner the 'jackhole of the day'

Andy Cohen has backtracked on remarks he made about the feud between Kylie Jenner and Amandla Sternberg over cornrows.

The Watch What Happens Live host tweeted an apology Tuesday for labeling the row his 'jackhole of the day'.

'I want to apologize to Amandla. I didn't understand the larger context of this cultural discussion and TRULY meant no disrespect to her or anyone else,' the TV personality tweeted.

He added that he was not calling the 16-year-old a 'jackhole' directly, explaining: 'To clarify, I gave the jackhole to an online feud & certainly not to the topic or to any individual. I ironically hate online feuds.'

One of his Monday night guests on WWHL, Laverne Cox also rushed to walk back any suggestion that she was not cognizant of a wider picture after she agreed on the show that it was OK for white women to wear cornrows, citing Bo Derek in the film 10.

The transgender star of Orange Is The New Black took to social media to explain she didn't want to get involved in what was perceived to be a celebrity feud and was unaware of who Sternberg was.

Cox added that she needed more than a few seconds on live TV to address the cornrow issue.

Cox went on: 'When the traditions and practices of marginalized communities are used by those in power and the material conditions of those who are marginalized are not changed individually and systemically this is when cultural appropriation is deeply problematic and even potentially exploitative.'

Cohen's other guest on Monday's show, Vogue guru Andre Leon Talley said when 'white girls in cornrows' were fine by him when asked the question.

Talley has so far not felt the need to comment further.

The whole affair was sparked at the weekend when Sternberg, who played Rue in The Hunger Games, responded to an Instagram selfie posted by Kylie, 17, showing the reality star wearing cornrows along with the caption: 'I woke up like disss.'

Sternberg made headlines a few weeks ago when she posted photos of herself with Jaden Smith, her date for her school prom.

The 16-year-old took Kylie, who's also a friend of Jaden's, to task, saying: 'When you appropriate black features and culture but fail to use ur position of power to help black Americans by directing attention towards ur wigs instead of police brutality or racism #whitegirlsdoitbetter.'

Kylie, who is believed to be dating rapper Tyga, hit back with: '@amandlastenberg Mad if I don't, Mad if I do.... Go hang w Jaden or something.'
