The exciting news for the second runner-up to Kaitlyn Bristowe's heart was confirmed in a Tuesday report by the New York Daily News.

Ben may have ultimately lost out to Shawn Booth and Nick Viall but perhaps will truly come out the real winner as he will have several women vying for his heart on season 20 of the popular programme.

He ultimately failed to get a rose on Monday night's episode of The Bachelorette despite the 30-year-old woman gushing about how she was falling in love with him.

Ben did not make a fuss about his elimination as he made a gracious exit on the show and even shared a sweet message aimed towards Kaitlyn on social networking.

'This wonderful girl deserves happiness,' he tweeted after the show. 'Much respect for you @kaitlynbristowe and glad you were our bachelorette.'

Several die-hard fans and former alumni from the show also got on the microblogging site to lobby for Ben becoming the next Bachelor.

Season six Bachelorette and television personality Ali Fedotowsky posted: 'Watching Ben kiss Kaitlyn is basically just a preview for the next season of #TheBachelor. He'll totally be the Bachelor, right?'

Even Becca Tilley, who competed against Kaitlyn in season 19 of The Bachelor, had kind words to say about Ben as she wrote:  'If @benhiggi is the next bachelor- they better cast the best of the best for that guy! Wow. What a gem!'

All the campaigning seemed to work as he reportedly is set to star as the prize in the American reality television dating game show.

Regardless of the endorsements, he was likely to be cast in the role as the franchise has had a habit of using the second runners-up as the next stars.

Kaitlyn, her Bachelor Chris Soules, and Andi Dorfman are among the third place finishers who ultimately became the leads of their own show.

The casting news has yet to be confirmed by ABC but it's tradition that the announcement is made during the reunion show after the finale, which is scheduled to air on July 27.

Third place isn't so bad: Ironically enough, Kaitlyn was also the second-runner up on the 19th season of The Bachelor with Chris Soules, who himself happened to be a second-runner up on The Bachelorette as well
