He already has females swooning over him thanks to his sexy onstage persona.

But now American singer Ryan Adams has given women yet another reason to love him. 

The 40-year-old song writer took to Twitter on Monday to raise awareness for a lost kitten that needed rescuing from an Auckland cemetery, pricking the interest of more than 700,000 cat lovers.

‘Please any local cat rescue in Auckland, there’s a little black kitten Symonds & Grafton - in Cemetery. Abandoned,’ he wrote on Twitter on Monday, accompanied by an image of the black cat.

The feline which has now been dubbed ‘Cemetery Cat’ was finally caught by a local and is now being fed by the Grammy-nominated singer who first stumbled came across it while on a late night stroll while touring.

‘I fed her. She’s very sweet – was crying for help. Clearly abandoned,’ he wrote on Twitter on Monday, with an image of the cat eating from a bowl. ‘Very loving.’

It appears the music producer has been using his spare time in between shows to care for his feline friend until a permanent home is found for it.

The former Whiskey Town singer wrote on Twitter on Tuesday: 'Cemetery cat is still there. Our monitor engineer fed her this morning and sent this pic. Still needs a home...'

Cat rescue organisation the Lonely Miaow Association reached out to assist, as did another fan, Rob Isaac, who coincidentally lives next door to the cemetery.

The neighbour managed to rescue the cat, posting an image of himself patting it’s head on Twitter on Monday.

To which Adams replied: 'You are my hero, Rob. But more importantly you are hers. I cannot thank you enough. What a good man you are.'

But the success of the rescue mission was short lived, with the cat unfortunately escaping after just one night.

The ordeal captured the attention of the internet and #cemeterycat has been trending online since.

In January this year Ryan announced his divorce from Mandy Moore, who he was married to for almost six years.

He is currently dating fellow musician Natalie Prass.

‘Can’t wait to see this cat whisperer,’ she wrote under the image.

Ryan Adams will be performing in Sydney on July 21 for a one-off solo performance at The Sydney Opera House.
