‘I try to travel light. The most personal things I take are my music, some books and that’s it.’

Despite risking the wrath of manager Manuel Pellegrini, the left-back practises late into the night to hone his DJ skills, ‘I had never done it until the last six or seven months with my friend in Manchester and I was thinking it would be really easy but it’s really difficult but once you get going it’s so addictive. I don’t know if I should be doing this here because I go to bed late usually.’

Having spun his favourite hip hop and RnB tracks, the 29-year-old is now considering what he can label his DJ name.

‘I haven’t found a name yet,’ added Clichy. ‘I’ve got something in mind but I can’t give it to you yet. It has to be more professional.’

The Frenchman my even make his DJ debut at a team BBQ as the squad tries to relax ahead of the gruelling campaign.

‘It’s hard but I’m getting there, we might have a BBQ and we might be looking for someone to play the music, so we shall see.’

City have touched down in Australia for a tour which will include matches against Real Madrid, Roma and sister club Melbourne City, and began training on Friday.

Clichy has certainly arrived well prepared for life on tour, taking his own array of snacks. ‘I’m big on organic foods. If there is one piece of advice I can give to anyone is to take care of themselves by eating well.’

The former Arsenal defender is also prepared if Pellegrini allows the squad to sample the night life in Melbourne.

‘I have two t-shirts and a pair of jeans just in case the manager is nice enough to give us a night out.’

It remains to be seen whether Clichy’s DJ debut will go down well with the City squad.
