Job Announcement Text:

Applications are now being accepted for a postdoctoral researcher, funded through the University of Maryland (UMD) and the Center for Research and Exploration in Space Science & Technology (CRESST), to work with the Fermi Large Area Telescope (LAT) group at the Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) in Greenbelt, MD.

The Fermi LAT operates from 20 MeV to >300 GeV and has been monitoring the gamma-ray sky since August 2008. The Goddard LAT group encompasses a broad and diverse range of scientists, supporting research that spans the analysis and interpretation of LAT data as well as related multiwavelength observation, modeling and theory. Scientists within the group study Galactic topics, including pulsars and their wind nebulae, gamma-ray binaries, and supernova remnants; extragalactic topics, including AGN, GRBs, and impacts of the extragalactic background light; and astroparticle topics, including cosmic-ray studies and searches for new phenomena.

We strongly encourage candidates with an interest in LAT performance enhancements, ranging from low-level studies on improving LAT data reconstruction to innovative high-level analysis algorithms. Additional opportunities to develop interdisciplinary collaborations are enabled through strong connections to the GSFC-UMD’s Joint Space Science Institute (JSI) partnership.

Candidates should have a Ph.D. in physics, astronomy, or related field.  Prior experience in gamma-ray astrophysics is desirable, but not required. Applicants should forward Curriculum Vitae, list of publications, statement of research interests, and names/contact information for three references to:
