Watching porn on mobiles set to soar: The average phone owner will view 348 adult videos during 2015

  • Figures come from Juniper Research's Digital Adult Content report
  • It predicts that more than 136 billion adult videos will be watched in 2015
  • As 4G availability increases, there will be a rapid 'uptake' in mobile porn
  • And by 2020, the total number of porn video views will grow to 193 billion

Thanks to the rise of smartphones and 4G, mobile porn is booming.

Research has found that more than 136 billion adult videos will be watched in 2015 and by 2020, this figure is expected to rise to 193 billion.

And it estimates smartphone owners will watch an average of 348 videos each this year alone.

These figures are taken from Hampshire-based Juniper Research's Digital Adult Content: Market Trends, Forecasts and Revenue Opportunities 2015-2020 report.

It continued that, overall, video views are set to grow by almost 55 per cent in the next five years.

While there will be a marked increase in developing markets, the analysts see video growing most significantly in the US and Western Europe.

The report also predicts the rise in watching porn will be fuelled by virtual reality, with the first consumer version of Oculus Rift being released next year.

'3G, 4G and Wi-Fi have changed the nature of video-based services, as they make the streaming of high quality video quicker and more readily available to users "on the go",' the report said.

The majority of revenue from these adult videos will come from videochat and web cam services on a subscription rather than a pay-per-view basis, according to the report.

However, this growth may suffer following the rise in popularity of free porn sites and services.

For example, visitors to sites such as Xvideos, Pornhub and Youporn continue to grow.

With this in mind, the report said subscriptions will rise until 2020, but will then decline as more free content is made available.

Elsewhere, adult texting will see a severe decline in revenues, but will remain popular in the Indian Subcontinent.

And augmented reality will grow too, although will still remain a relatively niche activity.

RISE OF WOMEN WATCHING PORN

More young women than ever are watching pornography, a survey has revealed.

Almost one in four users logging onto Pornhub are women, with under-35s the biggest users.

They account for 24% of the people watching films on the site, which boasts 78 billion views of its videos.

One of the factors behind the rise is said to be the explosion in popularity of smartphones, with young women preferring to use their mobile devices to access the material.

The study, which comes from the website's traffic and analytics data, found that 60% of users watch pornography on their phone with just seven per cent on a tablet and 33% on a computer.

It has also been fuelled by the popularity of the 50 Shades of Grey trilogy by E.L. James, dubbed 'mummy porn'.
