With Prince George's second birthday a week away, his party-planning grandmother Carole Middleton already appears to have some ideas up her sleeve.

In her new column for the Little London magazine - a title catering to affluent parents in the capital - the 60-year-old businesswoman talks about her love of 'timeless' Mickey and Minnie Mouse-themed children's parties.

She also suggests an array of goods from her Party Pieces website, from as little as 90p, to get the celebration started.

For party bags, Mrs Middleton advises parents to stock up on mouse-shaped ears, chocolate coins and crayon sets to keep the little ones entertained.

And to set the tone, mouse-shaped balloons can be scattered around the event space with red-and-white polka dot hats for guests to wear.

Touching on her love of Disney, the mother-of-three and grandmother-of-two told Little London: 'Given that Walt Disney created Mickey Mouse nearly 90 years ago, in 1928, I think it has a truly timeless quality as a party theme.

'It works so well for both boys and girls, it appeals to all ages and has a lovely wholesome quality to it.

'The children love it and it just never seems to go out of fashion.'

Mrs Middleton, who set up a party planning company more than 25 years ago, goes on to reveal her secrets to running a successful Disney party.

She recommends that parents should create themed invites - sending them in the post or via the internet - to give invitees a 'taster of what's to come.'

For the big day, a colour scheme should be selected with 'gorgeous' decorations to match.

On the activities front, the party panning pro highlights the importance of planning ahead.

She proposes traditional party games, such as musical chairs, or the more ambitious art of biscuit decorating.

Mrs Middleton says the cherry on top is always a 'nice centerpiece cake' to fit the theme.

The Londoner agreed to start writing for Little London and another magazine called Baby London, this spring.

She joined the likes of Elizabeth Hurley and chef Thomasina Miers as a contributing editor on the bi-monthly mags.

For her first article, she shared her top tips for throwing the perfect outdoor party.

She also revealed what prompted her to set up her family firm, Party Pieces, after becoming frustrated with the lack of party paraphernalia on the market.

'This prompted Michael and I to launch our own small mail order company from a shed in our back garden in 1987,' she wrote.

'And while we've grown in size, we're still very much a family business.

'I love sourcing and developing new products and I'm delighted to share my favourite finds with Little London's readers.'

Unlike her daughter Pippa, it was reported that Mrs Middleton isn't getting paid for her writing roles.

But the magazines were clearly delighted with their new star signing.

Publisher Annabella Ward previously said: 'Most of our experts, including Carole, contribute for free, because they enjoy our titles and see our magazines as a great way of sharing their expertise with London parents.'
