Ethereal model-turned- mermaid Cara Delevingne leaves a haunting impression as the tense new Pan trailer is released

It's tipped to be one of the biggest movies of 2015, starring the likes of Hugh Jackman, Amanda Seyfried, Rooney Mara and Garrett Hedlund.

But when the full-length Pan trailer dropped on Thursday it was Cara Delevingne's mermaid character that stole the show.

While the 22-year-old supermodel appears as the mythical underwater creature only fleetingly, she certainly leaves a haunting trail behind her.

The catwalk queen - who is carving out a serious career in Hollywood with roles in big budget comic book movie Suicide Squad and indie flick Paper Towns - plays twin mermaids in the film and looks seriously menacing as she corners young Pan deep underwater in the teaser.

Cara's strong facial features and long, flowing white blonde hair make her look all the more fearsome as she rounds on the little boy in the dark depths.

But despite her fearsome demeanour, she looks graceful, elegant and lithe as she cuts through the water on a mission of her own with her CGI tail making her look all the more impressive.

Cara, who has also bagged a role in forthcoming The Face Of An Angel, has reportedly had her work cut out with all the underwater scenes and stunts but has risen to the challenge in her quest to be taken seriously as an actress.

Talking about her movie career so far, she told news.com.au that she's determined to prove herself.

She explained: 'People don't want to think I can act anyway so hopefully I can. And I want to prove everyone wrong because that's my favourite thing in the world.'

While talking about her acting aspirations earlier this year, she told Entertainment Weekly she wants to 'f**king Meryl Streep it'.

Asked to elaborate on her comments, she told the news outlet: 'When I say "f-ing Meryl Streep it" it's kind of the body and the diversity ... she's done so many different things — it's more like the body of work.'
