Victor Valdes is considering options away from Old Trafford despite tweeting that he is working hard to get ready for the forthcoming season.

The 33-year-old is a popular figure at Manchester United but, understandably, has held reservations about his role there.

He was barely used last season and although he has remained professional around the club, he is understood to be disappointed about various aspects of game opportunities and training.

Valdes was at Carrington on Tuesday working with club physios and tweeted: 'After a hard training session this morning, I am working hard for this season ! Come on you Reds !!!!'

The Spaniard's name was missing from United's travelling squad when it was announced on Monday but no reason was given to explain why he was left out.

Valdes, who only joined the club in January, acted as back-up to No 1 David de Gea for the second half of last season and appeared in the final two Premier League games of the campaign.

But with De Gea being targeted by La Liga giants Real Madrid, Valdes was expected to stake a claim to become Van Gaal's first-choice keeper next term.

The Dutchman's decision to leave the 33-year-old off Monday's flight to Seattle raises serious questions about his future at Old Trafford.

Valdes has just under a year left on his contract and has recently attracted interest from Turkish side Antalyaspor, who have already signed his former Barca team-mate Samuel Eto'o this summer.

However his agent, Gines Carvajal, has insisted his client wants to stay and prove himself at United.

He told AS: 'I’ve been contacted by a series of individuals from Turkey to negotiate a move for Victor. But I haven’t spoken with the president of the Turkish club in question.

'I don’t know him. I have no plans to talk with them again as my player has no interest in a move to Antalyaspor.

'His only wishes are to remain at Manchester United and he has another year left on his contract.

'We don’t see any reason for him to leave the club. United are amongst the top two or three best teams in the world.

'Victor is keen to fight for a place next season and wants to help the club as much as he can.'

De Gea is in America - where United will play four friendly matches - and he is likely to see plenty of action with Sam Johnstone and Anders Lindegaard the only other keepers in Van Gaal's 26-man squad.

Real Madrid are yet to bid for De Gea but that could change with club legend Iker Casillas now in Portugal to complete a permanent move to Porto.
