Charlize Theron was spotted taking a sneaky puff on the UK set of The Huntsman on Wednesday.

The actress, who celebrates her 40th birthday in three weeks time, is currently reprising her role as the evil Queen Ravenna for the prequel to Snow White And The Huntsman.

Smoke and mirrors: Charlize Theron was spotted taking a sneaky puff on the UK set of The Huntsman on Wednesday.

While she hadn't yet hit the makeup and wardrobe trailers yet, the star had the wicked stepmother's flowing blonde wig securely in place.

Instead of the queens usual opulent regalia, she wore her own comfortable pair of black trousers and a cosy matching black hoodie.

As an assistant director zipped her around the set in a golf buggy, the Oscar winner could be seen taking a toke on a cigarette... which she quickly hid with a smile when she realised she'd been spotted.

The mother-of-one can be forgiven for looking for a little stress relief - just weeks ago she split from her fiance, 54-year-old Sean Penn, whom she had been dating for a year-and-a-half.

She reportedly dumped the fellow Oscar winner in May although the exact date of their split is not known, after the pair had been spotted looking loved up together in public numerous times.

On Wednesday, 35-year-old Friday Night Lights actress Minka Kelly denied via Twitter that she was now dating Penn after the two were spotted at her birthday group dinner together.

Charlize's latest film is not without its own complicated love story; a planned sequel to 2012's Snow White And The Huntsman was reportedly shelved because it's star Kristen Stewart was caught having an affair with its married director Rupert Sanders.

The two were forced to publish apologies; Sanders wife subsequently divorced him, while Stewart was dumped by boyfriend and Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson.

Game of thrones: The prequel will focus on Theron's Queen Ravenna and Chris Hemsworth's Huntsman

Instead, a prequel to the film was then developed which will focus on Theron and Chris Hemsworth's character of the titular Huntsman, and will not feature Stewart at all.

Meanwhile the first film's visual effects supervisor Cedric Nicolas-Troyan will replace Sanders as the director, his first time behind the camera for a full feature film.

The Huntsman, which also stars Emily Blunt, Jessica Chastain and Nick Frost, hits theatres in April 2016.
