  • Rousey also won the 'Best Female Athlete' award, beating the likes of Wimbledon champion Serena Williams

Ronda Rousey pipped Floyd Mayweather to the 'Best Fighter' award at the ESPYs on Wednesday - then took aim at his domestic abuse record.

Rousey, the UFC's women's bantamweight champion, topped the poll ahead of Mayweather, boxers Terence Crawford and Gennady Golovkin and fellow mixed martial artist Donald Cerrone.

The 28-year-old was also named 'Best Female Athlete', beating basketball player Breanna Stewart, skier Lindsey Vonn and Wimbledon champion Serena Williams to the prize.

Mayweather, who beat Manny Pacquiao in May, served two months of a three-month prison sentence in 2012 after pleading guilty to domestic violence.

And on receiving her first trophy, Rousey said: 'I wonder how Floyd feels to be beat by a woman for once.'

She then added, in reference to Mayweather claiming not to know who she was in an interview last year, 'I'd like to see him pretend not to know who I am now.'

But earlier, Rousey was pictured laughing and joking with former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson, a convicted rapist.

She said: 'I'm really glad Mike was able to come, but I really don't think it's till I beat Bethe [Correia] and go home and go back to the hotel and look at myself in the mirror for the first time, like (Tyson) was saying, that moment after it all, it hits you.

'And he knows better than anyone what that moment is like. And I think that's the time it's really gonna hit me.'

'Mostly I wanna thank my mum who, you did so much. [You] put up with so much for me to get here, and I really appreciate it.'

Other award winners included Lionel Messi and Robbie Keane who were named 'Best International Athlete' and 'Best MLS Player' respectively.
