An indictment for the man who allegedly shot at Lil Wayne's tour bus has claimed he called rival rappers Birdman and Young Thug immediately before and after the attack.

The shooting occurred in April when a car pulled up alongside 32-year-old Lil Wayne and his entourage and opened fire before fleeing.

Wayne, whose real name is Dwayne Carter, and Birdman, real name Bryan Williams, were formerly frequent collaborators and jointly owned Cash Money Records.

But following a pay dispute the two became bitter rivals.

According to the indictment, on April 26, Young Thug - real name Jeffrey Williams - was attempting to perform a show at a club in New Orleans, Louisiana when he was shouted off stage, with the crowd chanting for Lil Wayne.

Shortly afterward in Atlanta, Georgia, 500miles away, police spotted gang members connected to 22-year-old Young Thug - including his former tour manager Jimmy Winfrey - arriving at another club where Wayne was performing.

Police spotted an assault rifle in Winfrey's car and attempted to detain him, but he fled the scene. Fearing gang violence, they immediately escorted Wayne and his 11 person entourage from the club in two buses.

But as the buses were driving along the interstate, the indictment alleges that the same 2015 white Chevrolet Camaro Winfrey had fled in pulled up alongside and fired a number of shots from a .40 caliber handgun and a 9mm handgun, before speeding off. Nobody was injured.

The indictment claims that while on his way to the Atlanta club, and while pursuing the buses afterward, Winfrey was 'in contact by cell phone with cell phones connected to Jeffrey Williams'.

The bus driver called police and, fearing that if they stopped they would come under fire again, agreed to continue on and meet officers at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.

As the buses were on route, Winfrey placed another call, this time to a phone owned by 46-year-old Birdman, before following Wayne to the hotel.

Although the indictment doesn't say what Winfrey intended to do there, TMZ claimed 'the insinuation is Winfrey was told to go finish the job'.

According to the indictment, Lil Wayne, Birdman, Young Thug and Jimmy Winfrey are all Blood Gang members.

It also points out that in Young Thug's music video for Halftime, Winfrey can be seen holding an assault rifle similar to the one he was spotted with at the Atlanta club.

In the lyrics, he raps that if he pulled up next to 'Lil Whodi' he would 'pop him in the noggin' while a gun is pointed at the camera. Lil Whodi is a name Lil Wayne went by at the start of his career.

Neither Birdman nor Young Thug have been charged connected to the incident.

However on Wednesday morning Young Thug was arrested for a separate incident on an outstanding warrant, after allegedly threatening to shoot a security guard in the face earlier this month in Georgia.

According to music website Pigeons and Planes, a witness claimed he had been riding around the shopping centre on a two-wheel Hovertrax board, when he was approached by the guard and asked to stop.

The rapper, which it says is a friend of Rihanna's, then pulled up his shirt as if he had a gun and threatened to shoot him.

Meanwhile according to TMZ, police executed a search warrant on his home in Sandy Springs, outside Atlanta, and issued further arrest warrants, which now include felony cocaine possession, felony marijuana possession and 3 counts felony gun possession.
