Melissa McCarthy and Kate McKinnon slip into Ghostbusters jumpsuits as they shoot scenes for the all-female reboot in Boston

The odds were stacked against their daredevil Ghostbusters stunt doubles on set on Tuesday.

But it was a much more relaxed working day for leading ladies Melissa McCarthy, 44, and Kate McKinnon, 31, as they filmed night scenes for the new movie on Wednesday.

The women, who star alongside Leslie Jones and Kristen Wiig in the all-female reboot of the classic film, certainly seemed to be off duty as they headed through the set in Boston, Massachusetts.

Melissa appeared to be enjoying her leisurely stroll with her hands in her pockets while Kate nonchalantly fiddled with her glasses.

Both were in uniform and looked like hardcore exterminators kitted out in stone-coloured jumpsuits.

Each sported the traditional No-Ghost logo, on the right upper arm, and a left name tag, displaying their last names.

The pair seemed to have misplaced their insulated work gloves and standard-issue lace-up boots with Melissa opting for a pair of black Converse and Kate choosing a pair of Uggs to finish off her combat look.

They did, however, wear their new ghost-busting equipment proudly across their chests

And despite their relaxed attitude, they were more than prepared for any unforeseen attacks with their hair tied back.

The cast and crew were out in force on Tuesday with stunt doubles for three of the four female leads - Melissa, Kate and Leslie Jones - pictured getting into character.

Kate's alter-ego was left dangling out of a broken third-storey window above a Chinese restaurant, leaving the other two brave ladies to rescue her.

Melissa and Leslie's doubles were on hand inside the building and quickly pulled her to safety.

For the 2016 remake of the 1984 cult blockbuster hit, director Paul Feig has switched up the original cast - recruiting the four Hollywood actresses as the leads and changing the female receptionist to a very male Chris Hemsworth.

Chris' stunt double was also pictured cruising onto the set riding a fully-loaded Ghostbusters motorcycle.

Dressed in the iconic uniform, he looked every inch the part he was playing.

The film is due for release in July next year and although filming is well underway, the plot is not yet known.

Most recently, original cast-member 63-year-old Dan Aykroyd - who played Ray Stantz in the 1984 movie and its 1989 sequel alongside Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson - all but confirmed he'd be making somewhat of a return to the franchise.

'On GB set shooting my scene with funny beautiful Kristen Wiig Lady GB's are adorable, hilarious and badass Exhilarating! #Ghostbusters,' he tweeted on Tuesday.

However, shortly after the tweet appeared on his account, it mysteriously disappeared which can only point to the paranormal or the fact he got in trouble for exposing his secret cameo to the world.

According to Indie Revolver, Aykrod's plays a cab driver who Wiig's character tries and fails to hail down, and during the exchange he gets to utter the immortal line 'I ain't afraid of no ghosts'.

A flustered Wiig shouts after him: 'That’s a double negative! That means you ARE afraid of ghosts!'

Both Murray and Hudson has previously stated they would also consider doing a cameo for the film.
