Peep Show's David Mitchell cradles two-month-old daughter Barbara as he enjoys an al fresco lunch with wife Victoria Coren

They tied the knot in a star-studded ceremony in November 2012 and almost three years later David Mitchell and Victoria Coren are the proud parents of a little girl.

Barbara Elizabeth June Mitchell was born in May, with her birth announced on her mother's Twitter page, and the pair had their little bundle of joy with them when they enjoyed an al fresco lunch in London on Wednesday.

Doting dad David, 41, - star of Peep Show - cradled Barbara in his arms while Victoria, 42, managed to grab a quick bite to eat before cooing over the baby.

The actor married writer and presenter Victoria at St Peter's Church in Belsize Park, North London in front of a host of other television stars, including comedian David Baddiel and his actress wife Morwenna Banks, and former Blue Peter host Konnie Huq in 2012.

They met at a showbiz party in 2007, and even though David admitted he was instantly smitten with Coren, three years went by before they actually got together.

She was in a relationship with someone else at the time and turned down the comedian's advances.

In his autobiography Back Story, David spoke out about the agony of not being with the love of his life for those years, and how it led him to midnight walks in the park and frequent visits to the pub.

'I was hopelessly in love. I told no one about it,' the star disclosed in his book. 'I didn't tell my closest friends or my parents of the enormous sadness that overshadowed my life.'

'I started walking for my back,' he wrote. 'I kept going because of her. It made thinking about her more bearable.'

'I'd always liked getting drunk in the pub or at parties – now I had a real use for it.'

'You could use it to speed up time – almost like cutting to the next morning's hangover. So I did that. A lot. A few times, when drunk, I'd get off with someone. The booze allowed me to tell myself that it might make me feel better. Maybe I'll manage to fall in love with this person instead.'

The pair finally began dating in 2010 and Victoria has been equally open about how smitten she is with him.

She told the Daily Telegraph in 2012: 'I am filled with this bizarre mix of thinking David could have done a lot better than me and feeling we're so alike and complement each other so wonderfully that we are the ideal match and couldn't possibly be with anyone else.'
