The original series aired from 1992 – 2003.

It built a cult following, as viewers watched duo Mulder and Scully try to solve crimes which appeared to have links to the paranormal.

There has been talk of a new series for some time, but getting Anderson and Duchovny back together without scheduling conflicts proved difficult.

However the two actors were able to clear their diaries for Summer 2015.

Filming has now commenced in Vancouver.

Writer and executive producer of the new series Chris Carter said of the new mini series: ‘We're going to tell The X-Files the way that we've always told them; we will of course set them in the time and place that they exist.

"We're telling contemporary stories about contemporary situations, true to Mulder and Scully's characters and their relationship and the passage of time.'
