Using conditioner before shampoo is advised for those that suffer from thin, highlighted or greasy hair
CONDITIONER BEFORE SHAMPOO
While it may seem to go against every hair rule, conditioning before using shampoo can indeed be transformative - but for only thin, highlighted or oily hair.
Speaking to Refinery 29, Nina Dimachki, artistic director for Kérastase, explained how it is the best method for washing certain types of hair, as the conditioner will be beneficial without weighing the length down.
She explained: 'Conditioning before you shampoo is great for adding nourishment to fine hair without weighing it down.
'It also promotes a longer lasting blowdry and primes the hair before cleansing, allowing shampoo to distribute easier and more evenly.'
A kabuki brush plus a spritz is ideal for smoothing down unwanted flyaways
A few swipes of any tumble dryer sheets down the length of the hair helps to combat irritatingly static areas
SORT FLYAWAYS
For irritating strands of hair that remain static at the top of your head, a kabuki brush is the perfect tool with it's densely-packed hairs.
Spritz a small amount of hair spray onto the bristles and use to smooth down any frizzy patches.
The result will be a smooth and shiny look without the crispy texture usually associated with hairspray.
DRYER SHEETS
Want to smooth down static locks, but don't want hair to be weighed down with numerous products?
This next hair hack only requires one widely-available household product: tumble dryer sheets.
Smooth unruly areas with a few swipes of the sheets for perfectly slick hair.
EYE SHADOW YOUR HAIR
To give lacklustre hair a quick boost, dust a matte eye shadow of a similar colour to your locks, all along the hairline.
This trick will give the instant illusion of thicker hair, by eliminating almost any glimpse of scalp or thinner hair patches.
Using an eye shadow which is a similar colour to your hair, and lightly dusting down the parting can give the illusion of thicker locks
Using a clean toothbrush to gentle tousle neat braids can give a more teased, festival look
TOUSLE WITH A TOOTHBRUSH
Happy with your braids but after the more natural lived-in look?
Use a clean soft toothbrush and gently comb the sections of hair in the opposite direction to which they've been braided.
This will give them an effortlessly teased festival aesthetic.
STACK YOUR HAIR FOR VOLUME
Ever find that curls immediately drop after being misted with hairspray?
After curling your hair with tongs, gently pile the strands on a messy heap on top of your head.
Spritz with a generous offering of hairspray, before letting your locks cool.
Let the hair down, and run through the entirety with your fingers for glamorous and voluminous curls.
WASH HAIR BEFORE BED
Hair holds heat styling much better when it's not freshly washed.
Clean and dry hair the night before; this means the hair is not laden with moisture from the shower and will have a better texture for styling.
Washing hair the night before it is due to be styled, will give the hair added texture and make it easier to work with on the day
DRY SHAMPOO ON WET HAIR
Michael Dueñas, who has worked with celebrities such as Lady Gaga, Mariah Carey and Felicity Jones, controversially advises applying dry shampoo to wet hair.
Speaking to beauty website Byrdie, Dueñas, who has been using the method for four years, said: 'I was out of mousse on a job that required volume, and in a panic I used my dry shampoo. I was astonished at how well it worked.
'It all depends on the type of volume I want. I use dry shampoo when I want the hair to look like there is absolutely no product in the hair.
'So when I am looking for large volume, but an airy, not-so–set-in-place style, dry shampoo is my go-to.'
Dueñas added that it is the best method for hair that looks effortlessly and naturally full.
He explained: 'Dry shampoo does not have any hold factor to it, just body-building properties.'
