He later shares a snap of a snoozing May with the accompanying message: 'Oh no. It's dead.'

Clarkson's participation in the tour comes after a controversial parting of ways with the BBC and flagship show Top Gear.

He was suspended by Tony Hall, the corporation's director general, after a 'fracas' with producer Oisin Tymon following a day of filming in March.

Hall said at the time: 'There cannot be one rule for one and one rule for another dictated by either rank, or public relations and commercial considerations.'

Following Clarkson's departure from the global smash hit show earlier this year, Hammond and May stood by him and parted from the show.
