She regularly pushes the boundaries when it comes to fashion and isn't afraid to experiment with her wardrobe choices.

And Queen Letizia's latest outfit was certainly no exception, as the 42-year-old royal stepped out in an abstract print grey and black dress as she hosted a musical event in Spain.

The elegant brunette was on hand to inaugurate the summer courses of the International School of Music of Princesa de Asturias Foundation in Oviedo, Spain.

It was something of a homecoming for the Queen, who was born in Oviedo, Asturias, to a middle-class family in 1972.

The former news anchor attended La Gesta School in Oviedo, before her family relocated to Madrid.

Today, the monarch joined Mezzosoprano Teresa Berganza, who is admired for her musical abilities and beguiling stage presence.

Berganza made her debut appearance in London at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden and by 1967, had made her Metropolitan Opera debut as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro.

She married composer and pianist Félix Lavilla and the pair had three children; they often performed together.

She performed at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona in 2012 and was the first woman elected to the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando.

According to its website, the Princess of Asturias Foundation is a non-profit private institution whose aims are to 'contribute to extolling and promoting those scientific, cultural and humanistic values that form part of the universal heritage of humanity and consolidate the existing links between the Principality of Asturias and the title traditionally held by the heirs to the Crown of Spain.'

Queen Letizia's 47-year-old husband, King Felipe VI, has been the Honorary President of the Foundation since it was established in 1980.

However, after he succeeded the throne, his daughter Leonor de Borbón y Ortiz, Princess of Asturias, became the Honorary President.

It's been a busy week for the Spanish royal. Tuesday saw her join husband Kind Felipe at the promotion ceremony of military offices in the Genereal Air Academy in San Javier.

King Felipe, who is the commander-in-chief of the Spanish Armed Forces, wore full military uniform complete with a royal sash for the event while Letizia looked polished - as usual - in a skirt and top combination.

The thrifty Queen recycled an old favourite in the form of a pink and red colour blocking blouse and skirt complete with metallic belt. Letizia had worn the top and skirt combination from Uterque twice before, once in June 2011 and then again in July 2012.

However, Letizia's hair is now somewhat shorter giving her look a refreshed appearance.
