A lorry burst into flames at around 1.30am between junctions 12 and 13 of the M6 (right), causing the road to melt meaning it will be shut southbound today until at least 4pm for emergency repair work (left). Tailbacks are already stretching for 11 miles with delays of up to an hour with traffic slowing to a standstill at some points. Part of the M20 is also closed to tourist traffic after lorries attempting to cross into France ended up stacked along the side of the carriageway. The news will spell misery for millions of holidaymakers taking to the roads for their summer getaway.
