Reclusive Rob Kardashian skips the ESPYs as Caitlyn Jenner is honoured with courage award... but all nine of his siblings attend

Rob Kardashian did not join his nine siblings at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday night, after shunning the spotlight for the past year.

The 28-year-old, who's 100 lb weight gain has been widely reported, was the only one of Caitlyn Jenner's 10 children and stepchildren to skip the event, where Caitlyn was honoured with the Arthur Ashe Courage Award.

Rob has been a bit of a recluse for about a year and no longer can be seen on the family reality show Keeping Up With The Kardashians.

Rob apparently was in the dark about his 65-year-old stepparent making her debut as a female on the cover of Vanity Fair in June.

Kim Kardashian, 34, told Access Hollywood Live that her younger brother was bewildered when she sent a mass text of Caitlyn Jenner on the magazine's cover.

Rob didn't recognize a trace of the father figure who raised him and responded: 'Kim, why are you sending me this? Who is this woman and why do I care?'

'And I was like, Rob, that's Bruce - that's Caitlyn. And he was like, "Oh my god, she's beautiful''', Kim added.

Kim said that Rob called Caitlyn and the pair 'had a love fest' over the phone.

During Caitlyn's acceptance speech, she broke down in tears as she thanked all of her family, telling the audience: 'I never wanted to hurt anyone else, most of all my family and kids.

'I always wanted my children to be proud of their dad. You guys have given me so much support and I'm so so so grateful to have all of you in my life. Thank you.'

Rob's mother Kris Jenner, 59, recently slammed reports that he had checked into rehab by telling Entertainment Tonight on Friday the claims were 'completely fabricated'.

Kris expressed her concern over Rob during an early episode of season 10 of Keeping Up With The Kardashians that aired in March.

'If I don't help him do something drastic, he's going to die,' Kris tearfully shared with a family therapist in episode four of the recently concluded tenth season.

'He was someone who was very athletic and he's gained over 100 pounds in the last year,' the mother-of-six continued. 'I'm just waiting for this horrible thing to happen and there's nothing we can do about it.'

Rob due to his personal issues with his physical appearance missed Christmas 2014 and skipped Kim's wedding to husband Kanye West in May 2014 in Italy.

Meanwhile, the former Olympian joined recent recipients like Michael Sam, the first openly gay NFL player, and sportscaster Robin Roberts, who survived breast cancer and the blood disease myelodysplastic syndrome.

In its statement announcing Jenner's award, an ESPN boss said he hoped honouring Jenner would 'give comfort' to other transgender people struggling with their identity.'

Executive producer Maura Mandt said upon announcing the honour: 'Bruce [Jenner] has received many accolades over the years for being one of the greatest Olympians of our time, but The ESPYS are honored to celebrate Bruce becoming Caitlyn.'

'She has shown the courage to embrace a truth that had been hidden for years, and to embark on a journey that may not only give comfort to those facing similar circumstances, but can also help to educate people on the challenges that the transgender community faces.'

Jenner herself was also quoted in the statement. She said: 'In the past few months, the overwhelming outpouring of support from all over the world for my journey has been incredible'.

'However, being honored with this award, which is named after one of my heroes, is truly special. For the first time this July, I will be able to stand as my true self in front of my peers.'

ESPN has given its Arthur Ashe Courage Award, named after a tennis player who died of AIDS-related pneumonia, to figures ranging from professional sportsmen to relative unknowns - and even a world leader.
