INTERVIEW BY ROB DRAPER IN MONTREAL: Jose Mourinho's voice is hoarse: two training sessions a day in Montreal as Chelsea prepare for the new season have taken their toil. Mourinho has enjoyed the preceding break, including a family holiday, and appearances at The Queen's Club watching Rafa Nadal. But the time for genteel summer pursuits is over. His desire to ensure his players don't settle for the complacency of being champions means that he has almost lost his voice in the first week of pre-season training communicating to them his desire.
Walcott, Cazorla and Ozil all on target as Arsenal stroll to victory over Everton to lift Asia Trophy
ARSENAL 3-1 EVERTON - MATT BARLOW IN SINGAPORE: Little more than a glorified training session maybe, but here was a friendly game to enhance a few of Arsenal's hopes and deepen some of Everton's fears. Arsene Wenger relaxed in his seat and enjoyed a fluent performance which suggested the Londoners were still in good rhythm and can extend a fine end to the last campaign into the next one.

MIKE DICKSON AT QUEEN'S: Andy and Jamie Murray held their nerve in amid a feverish atmosphere to put Great Britain within sight of the Davis Cup semi-finals.
England struggle to turn tide in second Test as Australia make most of Lyth's dropped Warner chance and rack up the runs
PAUL NEWMAN AT LORD'S: Alastair Cook fell to one knee and bowed his head after falling in the 90s for the seventh time in Test cricket. It was not the failure to reach his 28th century that hurt Cook but the realisation that England's Ashes lead was slipping away. While the captain was there England still had a chance of avoiding the huge first innings deficit that should lead to Australia levelling this series on Sunday but with him went his side's best chance of somehow clinging on to that 1-0 lead.
Ashes fan left red faced after camera captures her taking tumble in the stands
TALE OF THE DAY: Wickets weren't tumbling on Saturday night, but one spectator certainly was. Cameras zoomed in on a lady as she tried to sit down, but her seat was up and she crumpled to the floor. Friends roared with laughter, as did the rest of the ground when her embarrassing predicament was shown on the big screen.

After 12 hours and four holes (yes, just four) Johnson takes lead at wind-delayed Open
DEREK LAWRENSON AT ST ANDREWS: A rancorous, unsatisfactory day at The Open, filled with controversy, farce and all too little golf, reached its marathon conclusion on Saturday night with a new halfway leader as Dustin Johnson birdied the 18th hole to nudge ahead of the total posted the previous evening by Englishman Danny Willett (remember him?). It took the gifted American almost exactly 12 hours to complete little more than four holes left over from the previous afternoon as tortuous delay followed tortuous delay, owing to high winds that stubbornly refused to obey the forecast and lie down.
Is Woods nearing the end after missing third cut in four majors?
RIATH AL-SAMARRAI AT ST ANDREW'S: In among Saturday's weather carnage, a gust of wind sent Tiger Woods' scorecard flying across a fairway. He gave chase but no-one would have blamed him if he let it disappear on the breeze.

Still got it! All-action Gerrard inspires LA Galaxy comeback from two goals down
LA GALAXY 5-2 SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES - SAMI MOKBEL IN LOS ANGELES: You're 2-0 down inside 25 minutes; what do you do? Give the ball to Steven Gerrard. That was Liverpool's default answer for nearly 20 years. It seems it's the same for the LA Galaxy. Even here in Hollywood, you'd struggle to find a script more far-fetched than this.

Rogers escapes serious injury after being hit on back of head at Lord's in clash that brought back memories of Hughes tragedy
Australia opener Chris Rogers was lucky to escape with only a small cut behind his ear after being struck on the back of his helmet, in the same area that fellow Aussie batsman Phillip Hughes was hit in the tragic accident which took his life. Rogers was struck while taking evasive action from a James Anderson bouncer with the first delivery on day two of the second Ashes Test at Lord's. A hush descended around the ground before it was clear Rogers had only suffered a minor injury as team doctors treated the cut.

SUMMER LOWDOWN: TRANSFERS, PRE-SEASON AND KITS...
With Delph gone and Benteke set to follow... it's no wonder Villa boss Sherwood had his head in his hands during draw with Braga
BRAGA 0-0 ASTON VILLA - LAURIE WHITWELL IN PORTUGAL: Tim Sherwood struck a relaxed pose as he stepped out onto the pitch at the Estadio Da Nora, this modest stadium in the Algarve where three dusty walls and one stand line the pitch. Hands in the pockets of his tracksuit bottoms, he looked calm in the late-evening Portuguese sun. But his mind must have been whirring. Fabian Delph, the player he made captain, was in the process of completing his move to Manchester City and Christian Benteke, although here in body is long gone, to Liverpool.
