'I feel very secure within myself': Elle Macpherson admits her confidence has soared since she hit 50 last year

Many people dread getting older.

But that's not the case for Elle Macpherson as she believes hitting 50 last year was the turning point for her and she now radiates more confidence and happiness than ever before.

Speaking to Redbook magazine, about how she felt about turning 50, she said: 'I feel very secure within myself – strong, happy and motivated. Hopefully I’ve gained some wisdom over the years.'

The 51-year-old supermodel admits she can now look back on her mistakes with laughter because she's more accepting of the fact that she can't always get everything 'right.'

She explained: 'I have a sense of humor about my mistakes. I’ve accepted that I don’t always get it right, but it’s not the end of the world.'

She may have an impressive career tucked under her belt and jaw-dropping good looks, but Elle recently revealed she was worried how age would affect her famous money-making assets.

'It's one thing being 20 and gorgeous with legs up to your armpits and beautiful tight skin... and it's another to be 51,' she said during a frank interview with Sunrise last month.

'Finally you get to this stage and you say "I've been known to be one of the most beautiful women in the world," and felt really not confident and sure of myself.

'As I've matured I've realised that it doesn't really matter what I look like.

'The most important thing is how do I feel? When I started sleeping more and relaxing a bit more in my life and looking after my nutrition... good nutrition can change everything.

'I hadn't really understood how deprived my body was.'

Elle certainly didn't have any body hang-ups earlier this week when she slipped into a skimpy bikini and flaunted her incredible physique while holiday in St. Tropez, France with her family.

The runway sensation has been enjoying an exotic tour of the global seas in recent days, having been spotted cruising through Monte Carlo, Monaco, over the weekend with her man Jeffrey.

The entrepreneurial businesswoman's marriage to Jeffrey, 45, is her second - she first tied the knot with Gilles Bensimon in 1986, though the pair would split three years later.

She has two children, 17-year-old Arpad and 12-year-old Aurelius, with a financier Arpad Busson, whom she began dating in 1996 and separated from in 2005.

Elle and Jeffrey began their relationship in 2009 and barring a six month break in 2012 have been together ever since, marrying in 2013, with the model becoming step-mother to his children.

Along with glam squad Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford, Naomi Campbell, Helena Christensen and Claudia Schiffer, Elle was named among the 'Magnificant Seven' in 1996.
