LEE, Maine (NEWS CENTER) -- The Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Steve McCausland confirms four people have been shot in three northern Maine towns Thursday night.

Police say the three shootings happened in Lee, Benedicta and Silver Ridge.

Police are now actively searching for the gunman. The search is primarily concentrated in the Lee area. Law enforcement have set up road blocks on Route 6 in Lee, checking inside each vehicle.

There is currently a command post setup at Lee Academy to coordinate the efforts.

As part of the Return of Wild Horses project, four Przewalkski's mares were transported back to their ancestral lands in a collaboration between the Prague Zoo and the Czech Army. The horses were moved from the Kbely military air base in Prague to Bulgan in Mongolia, before enduring a seven-hour drive (top right) to the Takhin Tal Nature Reserve (left). Also pictured, the horses frolicking in their acclimatisation pens (bottom right).
