A former Marine who killed his stepfather by giving him an 'atomic wedgie' causing him to suffocate on his own underwear, has been sentenced to 30 years.

Brad Lee Davis pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter killing his stepfather Denver St Clair in a drunken family fight in December 2013.

The 58-year-old died after Davis grabbed Mr St Clair's underwear and pulled the elastic waistband over his head and around his neck at a residence just east of Oklahoma City.

Death by wedgie: Brad Lee Davis suffocated his stepfather Denver St. Clair to death with an atomic wedgie after St. Clair called his mother worthless

The move strangled the victim, who also suffered head wounds that prosecutors say would have been fatal if he hadn't died from the wedgie first.

An atomic wedgie is the slang name for an extreme version of the common underwear-yanking prank that bullies are known to use in schools across America.

Oklahoma Medical Examiner spokeswoman Amy Elliott said the cause of death was asphyxiation and blunt force trauma after the elastic band was stretched too tightly over Mr St. Clair's neck.

Davis said he had only intended to embarrass his stepfather, who he accused of being a bully.

But Pottawatomie County District Judge John G. Canavan Junior said he was concerned that Davis took photographs on his cellphone photos of Mr St Clair, even though he was gurgling and clearly in distress.

He agreed with prosecutors that Davis beat his stepfather with some kind of object and then staged the crime scene to look like a fight.

Pottawatomie County Sheriff Deputy Travis Palmer said Davis and Mr St. Clair were drinking beer on the night of December 21, 2014 at the older man's residence when Mr St. Clair began speaking ill about his wife, who is Davis' mother.

Davis told investigators the two fought because Mr St. Clair was calling him and his mother worthless. Mr St. Clair had filed for divorce in September, reports News Ok

Investigators said Mr St. Clair's elastic waistband was stretched over his head and that it left ligature marks around his neck.

Blood splatter was also found in the kitchen, the living room and on the living room ceiling.

Davis said: 'I have no good reason to explain this. All I can say is I am so sorry and ashamed of my actions.'
