Rachel - who was romantically linked to Jake for a time - stole the style spotlight going braless for her red hot ensemble.

The Canadian star opted for a scarlet pantsuit look which she styled simply with a pair of black high heels.

The rumoured girlfriend of True Detective star Taylor Kitsch wore her short blonde locks with a loose side part and matched the color of her separates with a bold red lip.

McAdams was the first presenter at the ESPYs along with actor Kiefer Sutherland to present the award for Best Record Breaking Performance to winner Peyton Manning.

Jake was also on hand to present the Best Male Athlete award later in the night to winner Stephen Curry. The once-rumoured couple also sat together inside the Microsoft Theatre.

Together the A-list duo promoted their upcoming film Southpaw appropriately at sport's biggest night to recognize it's finest athletes.

Southpaw tells the story of a boxer (Gyllenhaal) who fights his way to the top, only to find his life falling apart around him.

McAdams plays Jake's on-screen wife who becomes the professional boxer's biggest supporter.

Also starring in the sports flick are Forest Whitaker, Naomie Harris and Rita Ora.

Jake has recently revealed that he find fear to be a good ‘motivator’.

The 34-year-old star admitted he was terrified ahead of his role as Billy 'The Great' Hope in Southpaw because he didn't want to look like an ‘idiot’ with his limited boxing knowledge.

He said: ‘I spent five months training for the movie and I trained twice a day. I figured I'd make five months into 10 months if I did that.

‘And I was just basically scared that I'd look like an idiot, so I worked as hard as I could. Fear is sometimes a good motivating thing.’

And despite his initial nerves, Jake told Access Hollywood: ‘I'm very proud of it. I'm proud of the fact that it's a movie that seems like a boxing film, but really is a family movie about the relationship between a father and a daughter, which moves me so much.

‘Everybody worked so hard on the movie. And they worked so hard making those relationships real and I think we made a beautiful movie so I'm really proud of it.’
