The late night shoot saw the American Idol judge come across a crime scene outside a grocery store.

Dressed in jeans, an oversized striped shirt, a beige trench coat and a pair of nude courts, she strutted through the graffiti-filled streets ready to confront an armed robber.

Jennifer put on a brave display as she whipped out a gun, hoping to stop the thief in his tracks.

Jennifer played a convincing cop, pointing the gun and shouting at the criminal.

The mother-of-two took no prisoners and managed to get one of the armed robbers to surrender while another, who was masked, tried to escape with a hostage.

The real drama kicked off when Jennifer - who plays feisty Detective Harlee McCord in the 13-episode series - shot the hostage.
