Elizabeth Hurley has revealed her heartache after the death of her pet dog. 

The 50-year-old took to Twitter yesterday to pay tribute to the animal, describing him as an 'enchanting dog'. 

'My heart aches for my beautiful Dash. Called to doggie heaven much too early. Yesterday was a very sad day,' the actress told her 490,000 followers.

The Spaniel was one of five dogs which live with Elizabeth at her Gloucestershire pile. It is not clear how the animal died.

Following news of his death yesterday, The Royals starlet was inundated with sympathetic messages from her many fans. 

She returned to Twitter today to thank fans for their support, writing: 'Thank you so much for all your lovely messages re Dash.

'He was an enchanting dog. He's buried under an oak tree.'

Later on Friday however the Estee Lauder beauty was back to work, filming scenes for the forthcoming series of her popular E! series in which she plays the Queen of England. 

Elizabeth is known for her love of animals and previously admitted to allowing her dogs to sleep in bed with her. 

In 2010 the Bedazzled star told of kissing her pets good morning before her then husband Arun Nayar.

'The first thing I do when I wake up is kiss my dogs. All of whom sleep on top of me,' she told The Evening Standard. 

'Living in the country means I try to walk or run with the dogs every day. I have three Labradors and a Spaniel, all of whom are a lot fitter than me.' 

Dash features regularly among photographs of the actress walking her other pets in fields surrounding her rural Gloucestershire home.
