The actress, who wrapped the final season of Mad Men last year, was hosting the event.

The cover star of the latest edition of the magazine, she told the publication she felt like having to bring the character of Joan back into her life again after such a long time apart was like rekindling an old relationship.

'It’s sort of like when you finally get over a breakup, and then they come back and they want to go out on a date again, and you’re like, Wait a minute—I got over you.'

Christina, who now sports strawberry blonde tresses, has been busy since she parted ways with the iconic drama.

She worked on the movie Drive between seasons, and now has a bank of projects waiting to be seen.

These include Lost River, which is the directorial debut for Ryan Gosling and Dark Places, the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn's novel, of Gone Girl fame.

She will also be seen starring in Roadies, which is a rock 'n' roll comedy series by Cameron Crowe.

Christina said Joan was almost one of the most perfect characters to play: 'She’s in many ways a woman we want to be.

'She speaks her mind, she’s confident, she’s ambitious and strong – and yet, those things often get her into trouble because it is the 1960s and she is a woman.

The actress revealed to The Wall Street Journal's Speakeasy that she was asleep when her Emmy nomination was announced.

She said: 'I was jet-lagged this morning, so I missed the phone call.

'I woke up to a lot of nice messages.'
