Rachel McAdams took advantage of some rare down-time on Thursday while out and about in Los Angeles.

The 36-year-old actress was spotted out with her sister, Kayleen McAdams, and her dog, George, outside of the Sycamore Kitchen restaurant.

With a major movie debuting in one week and a high-profile TV show on-the air, such leisurely activities may not be common for Rachel.

Casual dress seemed to be the standard for Rachel and sister on the sunny day, with a Pittsburgh baseball cap even hiding the actress' slightly messy hair.

While sunglasses hid Rachel's eyes, she did not seem to be wearing any makeup and only a couple of rings were worn as jewellery.

Rachel - who uttered the now infamous line 'stop trying to make fetch happen' in 2004's Mean Girls in an effort to discourage her friend from using the slang term 'fetch' to mean 'cool' - certainly had a cool look about her as she enjoyed some quality time with her dog.

She had on a button-down, denim shirt of pale blue for her top, while black jeans with gold zippers in the legs served as her trousers.

Casual look: Although she added some glamour for press interviews at another time that day, Rachel stayed with comfortable clothes for her down-time

Her sister, a makeup artist, was similarly casual in a white, sleeveless T-shirt and cut-off denim shorts.

As for George, the small dog Rachel got when she was together with ex Ryan Gosling, he seemed content with just a collar and a leash.

Time off: Busy with promotion for her upcoming movie, Southpaw, Rachel has not likely had much time off

The dog did not, unfortunately, seem to get any off-leash time to play fetch.

Premiering in North America on July 24, Southpaw is Rachel's newest film project - she has been promoting the film throughout the past week.

Rachel even made press appearances on the same day as her outing, joining co-star Jake Gyllenhaal at the Beverly Hills Four Seasons hotel with a much more formal look.

She also appeared at the ESPY Awards on Wednesday, presenting the Best Record Breaking Performance trophy to Peyton Manning at the event.

In addition to the movie promotion, Rachel stars in the current second season of True Detective, alongside Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn, and Taylor Kitsch.
