Stephanie Davis was fired from Hollyoaks after being deemed 'unfit for work' when she turned up intoxicated

Stephanie Davis was fired from Hollyoaks this week after turning up to the set under the influence of alcohol.

The Liverpudlian actress, 22, was sacked just four months after signing a new contract as Sinead O'Connor after a string of warnings over her lateness and attendance.

It was the final straw for soap bosses after she arrived on the Chester-based soap intoxicated.

A statement from her spokesman told the Mirror: 'Stephanie's contract was terminated following warnings for lateness, attendance and after a final incident in which she turned up to set unfit to work because of alcohol consumption.'

The reason comes 24 hours after Stephanie's axe was first revealed by TV bosses in statement.

A spokesperson for Hollyoaks has confirmed to the MailOnline: 'Stephanie Davis will no longer be filming Hollyoaks. Her contract has been terminated with immediate effect.'

Stephanie had been part of the Channel 4 soap since she was 16 after finding fame on Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber's show Over The Rainbow.

Over the past few years, Stephanie has gained a reputation for being quite the party girl and is regularly spotted out on the Manchester and Liverpool social scene.

A look at her Instagram account shows the actress enjoying drinks on nights out in bars and restaurants, often with model boyfriend Sam Reece.

In April, she ended up flashing her knickers in a very daring slashed-to-the-hip gown at the launch of the Pretty Green store in Manchester.

In 2012, she ended up flashing her bum at onlookers after stumbling out of the British Soap Awards after-party.

The soap star has no made no mention of the sudden news on her social media pages, but on Wednesday she did share a cryptic Instagram post about 'learning something new' and 'rebuilding'.

'Wake up early tomorrow. Eat a good breakfast. Do you hair and makeup and put on a kick-ass outfit,' the screengrab of text reads. 'Buy your cup of coffee and enjoy every sip of it. Go to work, make that money, and learn something new in the process. Nourish. Grow. Inspire.'

'Self-destruction is not an option. And let every choice you make be a brick in the foundation of rebuilding yourself.'

It was only in April that Stephanie was excitedly gushing about her new one-year contract with Hollyoaks.

Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: 'I'm really happy. I've been in the show since I was 16 and I'm 22 now. I've kind of grown up here, which has been mental.'

Stephanie first appeared on the Channel 4 soap in 2010, alongside her on-screen stepmum Diane, father Rob and brother Finn.

Prior to her casting, she had appeared in minor roles on Holby City and Doctors, but became noticed thanks to her appearance on Over The Rainbow in 2010, the BBC talent show which searched for an actress to play Dorothy in Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of The Wizard of Oz.

The talented singer and actress made it to the fifth week, and landed her role in Hollyoaks soon after.

She has starred in a number of major storylines for the Chester-set soap, including a prostitution plot, and a key role in the 2013 explosion at the council flats.

Recently Stephanie's character Sinead has started a romance with her best friend Ste Hay (Kieron Richardson) following the arrival of their daughter Hannah.

Last year she was nominated for the Best Actress award and Best Dramatic Performance at The British Soap Awards.
