Despite the Reddit post a spokesperson at McDonald's says there is no secret menu

User JoshuaTee had asked: 'Can you confirm the validity of the "Secret Menu"? Also, what is the one item you would recommend customers do not order?'

The fast food insider - who did not give his name - then claimed that indeed customers could order from the secret menu - saying it was made by 'random people' rather than from McDonald's staff.

They replied: 'You can order from the "Secret Menu". Just like with any of our sandwiches, you can add, remove or change ingredients by special request. These are called "grill orders" (ie Big Mac no pickle).

'The items on the "secret menu" weren't invented by anyone officially at McDonald's, it's just a random persons guide to burgers you could potentially "hack" at McDonald's.'

The manager also gave a brief guide on what to definitely avoid.

'DON'T order... the grilled chicken. It's horrible frozen chicken that we defrost and steam and it's a bit gelatinous.'

The insider assured his readers that his information could be trusted by providing a link to proof of their training and qualifications.

The secret menu was first bought to fast-foodies attention last April when culinary insiders Hack The Menu revealed several ways customers could enhance their Happy Meal with off-the-menu products.

The secret menu which includes such items as the Monster Mac and the McGangBang sees existing McDonald's ingredients fused into a whole new recipe.

Although many claim that they have had success with the secret menu with pictures shared online McDonald's UK claim that there is no such thing.

In response to the manager's claim on Reddit a spokesperson for McDonald's said: 'There is no secret menu at McDonald's UK.'

In fact the secret menu has become so widely discussed that it is now listed as an FAQ on the company's website.

The website says that although they allow customers to get creative with their food they deny any knowledge of a secret menu: 'Actually, our customers are pretty clever when it comes to customizing their orders with our menu items, so you may have seen some of their creations online. But we have no official secret menu of our own.'

SO WHAT'S ON THE NOT-SO-SECRET SECRET MENU?

The Monster Mac - Perhaps more aptly called the Bigger Mac, this gut stretching creation is simply a normal Big Mac - but with six extra beef patties shoved in.

According to the Hack the Menu team, the burger is 'enough to satisfy a few people with hearty appetites or one hungry lumberjack' and can be ordered from any McDonalds for $6.49.

The two Cheeseburger meal - Does what it says on the tin, if you ask for this you can expect an extra cheeseburger alongside your fries and drink priced at $4.69.

The All American- This simple offering consists of nothing more than a toasted burger bun containing a beef patty, ketchup and the often shunned gherkin. The $1 bargain snack is said to be one of the most popular items on the secret menu.

Fries with Big Mac sauce - Customers can simply ask for a small pot of the famous Big Mac secret sauce to dip their fries in, and, according to Hack the Menu, it's usually free.

Grilled cheese- This is easily the most basic of the secret menu choices. A hamburger is stripped bare aside from the cheese and is then grilled for $0.99. The website urges the importance of getting it grilled.

The Land, Sea and Air burger - This enormous burger combines all three of McDonald's most favored patties including two beef burgers, a Fillet-O-Fish and a McChicken combined with however many buns you wish for $8.49. However, Hack the Menu warn you will probably have to assemble it yourself.

The McGangBang - The somewhat crudely named McGangBang is said to be the most famous of the secret menu items. It combines a McDouble with a McChicken sandwich and sandwiches the two together for just $2.

The Neapolitan Shake - The three flavoured shake is one of the few beverages on the McDonald's secret menu. The shake blends the three classic flavours of vanilla, chocolate and strawberry in on cup to satisfy all cravings. $1.99 small. $2.49 medium, $2.89 large
