Crown Princess Mary's daughter, Princess Josephine, has stepped out in public wearing a bright blue cast just one week after breaking her arm while horse riding with her family in Denmark.

The four-year-old Danish royal couldn't contain her excitement as she attended the Gråsten Horse Parade as it passed her family's summer residence, Gråsten Palace, in southern Denmark on Sunday.

She was joined by parents, Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary, as well her siblings Prince Christian, Princess Isabella and twin brother Prince Vincent.

Prince Frederik and Princess Mary watched on smiling as their four children greeted delighted young horse riders and were handed bouquets of flowers.  

At one stage Princess Josephine, who was dressed in the same blue floral dress as her sister, was pictured holding her bouquet triumphantly above her head as she waved to the crowd.

She was rushed to hospital where she was fitted with a cast that almost covered her entire arm.

A 'royal watch' Twitter account posted a picture of Princess Josephine clutching her injured arm in a sling that looked to have been signed with 'get well' messages soon after her accident.

Pictures also emerged on the Twitter account, Royalty Speaking, of the royal couple heading out for a horse ride without their four children.

The princess - full name Josephine Sophia Ivalo Mathilda - is youngest of the Frederik and Mary's children, after twin brother Prince Vincent who is 26 minutes older.

She is fifth in line to the throne.

The twins have two older siblings, Prince Christian, nine, and Princess Isabella, eight.
