The best friend of the man who drowned in Hollywood star Demi Moore's swimming pool has revealed he was teetotal - meaning alcohol wasn't a factor in his death.

And Dulce Flores says she is racked with guilt over close friend Edenilson Valle's death because she believes she could have saved his life.

Student Dulce had been invited by Edenilson to Ghost actress Moore's home on Saturday, but declined the invite - a decision she deeply regrets.

The 22-year-old from Los Angeles told Daily Mail Online: 'Edenilson asked me if I wanted to go, but I couldn't. I'm now so upset because I could've been there to save him. I wish I was there to save him.

'It's such a tragic waste of life, and something like that should never have happened to him.'

Dulce fought back tears as she recalled fellow student Edenilson, 21, whose body was found floating in Moore's pool at her Beverly Hills mansion on Sunday.

The actress was said to be in 'absolute shock' over the death, which happened when neither she nor her daughters were at home,

She said: 'It's feels like a small part of my heart has been ripped away.

'Edenilson was my best friend, we did everything together, and he was just the sweetest guy. For this to happen to him is such a travesty, he was way too young and was just such a good man. He didn't deserve to go so soon.'

It's believed Edenilson, who was invited to the pool party by the caretaker of the property, drowned after the poor swimmer fell in to the pool or slipped in to the water after falling asleep on a floatation device.

Some news reports initially suggested alcohol or drugs may have been involved in the death.

But for Dulce that doesn't ring true, she said: 'Everyone is saying alcohol was a factor, or he took drugs, but the truth is he didn't ever drink, and didn't take drugs.

'He was a adventurous guy, very smart, studied Latin American studies at college, and loved traveling. He was always venturing somewhere.'

Dulce is also concerned that Edenilson's father believes that his son was drunk after reading some reports about his death.

'His dad has been very angry, he believes that Edenilson was drinking, but that simply wasn't true. He never touched alcohol,' she explained.

'There's been a lot of misreporting on that, but alcohol wasn't the factor at all and it's a terrible thing to say about him because he wasn't like that.'

Dulce said Edenilson would often visit her home, and he considered her and her parents his second family.

'Edenilson always used to spend so much time round our home. He use to think of it as a home away from home, and he was always so welcome,' she said, adding: 'I'm still in a state of shock. It's all very fresh for me and I'm just trying to get my head round the idea that I won't see my friend ever again.

'I'm absolutely heartbroken by this, as are most of his friends who have visited me as we all console each other.'

Dulce has set up a GoFundMe page in honor of her best friend and hopes that people give generously to help his family. It currently stands at $250 with a $20,000 target. 'We would like everyone to go on there and donate whatever they can, just to help the family,' she said.

'It's the least I can do as his best friend, but I just wish I could've done more to prevent this from ever happening.'

Another friend of Edenilson today said he was a 'good guy' with a great heart. Gabby Ventura said the 21-year-old graduated from University High School in Los Angeles and will be sorely missed.

She told The Los Angeles Daily News: 'He was a great kid. Never got into any trouble. Everyone loved him.' She posted a photo of Valle on Facebook showing the young man standing on some rocks near a canyon. 'Gone but never forgotten. Such a good guy. RIP big homie,' Gabby said in her caption.

Some of Valle's friends took to Twitter Monday to pay tribune to the unfortunate young man who ended up at the bottom of the GI Jane star's pool.

'RIP Edenilson thanks for all the laughs & jokes back in Uni & for letting play with ur hair evn tho u hated it,' wrote Daisy Cruz, accompanying her tweet with an undated black-and-white photo of the bespectacled young man enjoying a milkshake.

Another friend, Anahi Lopez, of Los Angeles, remembered Valle as a sweet young man who was 'always making people laugh.

Twitter user by the handle @Zarigensmom shared a photo of Edenlison sporting shoulder-length hair and a goatee posing with a girl dressed in a colorful skirt.

The 52-year-old actress was said to be in 'absolute shock' over the death at her $7million Beverly Hills home. In a statement released through her publicist Sunday, the star of GI Jane said she's out of the country and wasn't home at the time but the death at a party hosted by her assistant, which she caled an 'unthinkable tragedy.'

None of Demi's family were present at the home when the body was discovered, authorities said.

Sources told TMZ the man, who was a friend of one of Moore's assistants, slipped and fell in the pool. No foul play is suspected. There was also said to be a 'limited amount' of alcohol involved.

A preliminary investigation indicates this was 'just a tragic accident', police said. Aerial pictures showed Demi Moore's rectangular pool dotted with inflatable rings and floats.

Five people were at the home at the time of the drowning, including one person who is an assistant to Demi, Sergeant A. Bone of the West Los Angeles station told NBC Southern California.

Moore's assistant was in charge of the gathering and Moore was not home and was not considered to be involved in the man's death, Bone said. Tallulah has shared several photos on her Instagram of late-night pool parties, including one that was captioned 'this picture doesn't do justice to the glory that was our pool party last night'.

Tallulah Willis' Instagram suggests she was in New York this weekend with sister Scout to celebrate the latter's 24th birthday, which is on Monday.

Rumer, Moore's eldest child, also seems to be in the Big Apple.

She was seen leaving Los Angeles International Airport on Friday with friend Tye Blue and shared a selfie shot from a plane cockpit with the caption 'Apparently I'm flying us to NYC tonight'.

Over the weekend she regramed a video made by Tye, who said the two were at the Ambassador Theater in New York that night to watch Brandy Newman in Chicago the Musical.

Moore renovated the 1950s canyonside house with former husband Ashton Kutcher, who recently wed girlfriend Mila Kunis and with whom he has a daughter.

Kutcher and Moore added two bathrooms, two bedrooms and a children's den to the home, which Moore purchased for $3.15million in 2003.

The home, which Moore kept after the couple divorced in 2011, is now estimated to be worth more than $7million, according to Zillow.

The investigation is ongoing.

LA police were called to the house (pictured this afternoon) around 5.20am and discovered a man who had been removed from the pool and was being treated by paramedics. He was pronounced dead minutes later
