John Arne Riise has reaffirmed his strong affinity for Liverpool by having his former club's famous motto 'You'll Never Walk Alone' inked on his leg.

The slogan is synonymous with the Anfield club, as visible on the Shankly Gates as it is on the club crest, and despite Riise's departure for Roma over seven years ago, the Norwegian has shown that his time on Merseyside left an indelible mark.

The full-back became a firm fans' favourite during the Gerard Houllier years after scoring goals in both the Merseyside derby and against Manchester United within months of his arrival in 2001.

Riise, who would celebrate his goals by lifting his shirt over his head to reveal an impressive torso, was part of the incredible Champions League victory over AC Milan in 2005, as well as the FA Cup success over West Ham a year later.

The 34-year-old, who is now a free agent after his contract with APOEL was terminated once the Cypriot club had completed a domestic double, has clearly spent the summer reminiscing on those European nights at Anfield.

Riise was chuffed with his new tattoo, posting a picture onto his Instagram with the caption: 'Proud to show my new tattoo. A tribute to the amazing club and fans of @liverpoolfc I put it on my left leg as well.

'I'm very happy and hope you all like it and understand how much those 7 years and your support meant to me.'

The former Fulham defender returned to Liverpool last March to play in the All-Star Charity match, and his latest trip to the tattoo parlour will no doubt be well-received by the red half of Merseyside.
