'This is so emotional!': ABC meteorologist Ginger Zee barely has a bump as she reveals live on air gender of first child with Ben Aaron

  • The 34-year-old and her husband, Ben Aaron, are expecting their first baby
  • She announced the gender live on air and said it was 'so emotional'

She announced she was pregnant live on the air in late June.

So it's only fitting that ABC News meteorologist Ginger Zee went on Good Morning America again to let the world know the gender of her first child with husband Ben Aaron.

But the 34-year-old TV star - who barely had a baby bump - did not blurt it out, rather she released dozens of balloons in the appropriate gender color. After a countdown, the blue balloons emerged from large wooden boxes, revealing she is having a boy.

Zee is known for taking on big adventures for ABC, which includes skydiving, repelling off a building and swimming with sharks.

But she said this is the most 'nerve-wracking' thing she has done.

'All the other adventures promise you a return home,' she said.

'This is like when you get home the adventure's there. That's the big difference - it's why it's so emotional for me, because I'll do anything but this scares me!'

Thrilled: 'We are elated to have the opportunity to be parents. Motherhood will absolutely be my most extreme adventure yet! Can't wait to teach it all my favorite meteorology terms,' she said; here she is pictured with Aaron in January 2014

She then got serious.

'We are elated to have the opportunity to be parents. Motherhood will absolutely be my most extreme adventure yet! Can't wait to teach it all my favorite meteorology terms,' she said.

The baby is due in December.

In June Zee said, 'This is the most nervous I've been in a while. My adventurous spirit has gotten me into a little bit of everything the past few years. But nothing like where I'll go now,' she added.

But now, the meteorologist noted, there will be no turning back: 'All the other adventures promise you a return home. This is like, when you get home, the adventure is there and that's the big difference and that's why it is so emotional for me. 'Cause I'll do anything, but this scares me!'

On GMA, she announced her big news with a highlight reel of her adventures while sitting alongside Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Lara Spencer, Amy Robach, and Tony Reali.

As the video wrapped, the anchors cheered, clapped, and congratulated Ginger, while Lara offered her a hug.

Amy chimed in, asking Ginger: 'With all that adventure, how did you get pregnant?'

The expectant mother played off the question good-naturedly while admitting that she had only short amounts of time at home.

Ginger - who grew up in Rockford, Michigan - married her husband in a hometown ceremony with just 55 guests last June.

The bride wore a Pnina Tornai dress at the lakeside reception, where People reported that guests ate artisan cheese plates, grilled salmon and filet mignon, and a wedding cake served on top of a wine barrel.

Now that they are expecting their first child, Ginger noted on-air that she will be absent from GMA for about six weeks after her delivery - but when she comes back, she'll have a baby.
