In the pictures, Miley can be seen wearing a full body suit in lime green, which in the first snap features an alien face mask.

She is pictured standing in front of a green backdrop while also sporting a bright green sandwich board that reads: 'MTV won't let me perform.'

The following picture, in which the star has lost the mask, and sports her trademark pose with her tongue sticking out, shows a second sandwich board which finishes that thought.

'So I'm hosting this year's VMAs,' the cheeky star concludes, as she appears to be jumping in excitement.

Miley shared the hilarious snaps on her Instagram and Twitter accounts, while MTV took to Twitter to share the photos as well.

Alongside the photos the network wrote: 'ICYMI, @MileyCyrus is hosting the 2015 @MTV #VMAs! [alien emoji] You ready?'

Previously Miley has made headlines for two unforgettable VMA appearances, the most famous being her 2013 performance alongside Robin Thicke - and a foam finger - for her single We Can't Stop.

The following year Miley invited homeless youth Jesse Helt - who was also her date for the evening - onto the stage to accept her Video of the Year award for Wrecking Ball on her behalf.

Onstage Jesse spoke of the plight of homeless youth in Los Angeles, and asked fans to donate money to their cause on Miley's Facebook page.

That moment sparked the creation of Miley's Happy Hippie organization, which gives support services to those in need.

On Monday MTV also announced that nominations for this year's VMAs would be shared the following day at 10am ET, on the Beats 1 Charts show on Apple Music, hosted by Brooke Reece and Travis Mills.

The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards will take place August 30 at 9pm ET.
