Chris Evans turns on the romance with Alice Eve in the trailer for his directorial debut Before We Go

As Captain America he breaks baddies' skulls, but in his latest film he'll be breaking hearts.

The trailer for Chris Evans's directorial debut Before We Go has just landed and it features the burly actor in a softer, more emotional role than fans are familiar with.

Evans stars as Nick Vaughan, a trumpet playing street performer, who by chance meets Alice Eve's Brooke Dalton in Grand Central Station as the two embark on a night of destiny, courtship and rom-com fuzziness.

The two-minute trailer opens with Eve's character panicking in the expansive New York subway terminal as The National's heartwarming track 'England' plays.

Evans stands in the main concourse, playing his trumpet, hoping for tips.

And after Eve's Brooke Dalton misses her train and loses her purse, Evans's Nick Vaughan takes it upon himself to help out a stranger lost in a big city.

'If we can find your purse and we can get you home, that would make me a hero,' says Vaughan.

'Wanna come with me and have a little adventure,' he adds, reaching out a welcoming arm.

From there, Dalton goes from being skeptical about a stranger dropping everything to help her to casting flirtatious looks in his direction.

The two find out that they have more in common than they imagined (ahem, failed marriages) as they frolic through New York City, eloping into the wee hours of a destiny-filled evening.

As Evans's first time in the director's chair, he reportedly was inspired by Richard Linklater's Before Sunrise.

The 1995 original follows a familiar format - boy meets girl by chance, they fall in love over the course of a night - only replacing New York for Vienna.

As a traveling American abroad, the rom-com features a young Ethan Hawke as the star, which was the beginning of a bond between the actor and Linklater that would lead to their collaboration on 2014's Boyhood.

Fans of Evans can get their fix on the actor with Before We Go as they patiently wait for 2016's Captain America: Civil War.

Before We Go will be available on video on demand tomorrow, July 21.

But on September 4 the film will also hit select theaters.
